M-69 (Michigan Highway)
M-69 is an east–west Michigan State Trunkline Highway System, state trunkline highway in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Upper Peninsula (UP) of the U.S. state of Michigan. It connects with U.S. Route 2 in Michigan, US Highway 2 (US 2) on both ends in Crystal Falls, Michigan, Crystal Falls and near Bark River, Michigan, Bark River. In between, the highway runs for in rural UP forest lands. Before the creation of the U.S. Highway System, the current M-69 was a portion of M-12 (Michigan highway), M-12. The original M-69 was replaced by U.S. Route 102, US 102 and the M-69 designation was reused on a section of M-12 not replaced by US 2. Further changes to the current highway truncated it for three decades. Crystal Falls is a city and the county seat of Iron County, Michigan, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 1,598. The city is located within Crystal Falls Township, but is a separate municipal entity. The area first developed as a major center for iron mining and the timber industry; it has become increasingly popular for tourism in recent years. History Crystal Falls was platted in 1881. The county-designated highways in Michigan comprise a system of primary county roads across the US state of Michigan. Unlike the State Trunkline Highway System, these highways have alphanumeric designations with letters that correspond to one of eight lettered zones in the state. The County-Designated Highway System (CDH System) was created in 1970 in response to the business concerns of a woman from Saugatuck. Her one-woman crusade in the 1960s started after the highway in front of her motel was turned over to local control as a county road and removed from state highway maps when the nearby freeway opened. Concurrency (road)
In a road network, a concurrency is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. The practice is often economically and practically advantageous when multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, and can be accommodated by a single right-of-way. Each route number is typically posted on highways signs where concurrencies are allowed, while some jurisdictions simplify signage by posting one priority route number on highway signs. M-95 (Michigan Highway)
M-95, designated the Leif Erickson Memorial Highway, is a state trunkline highway in the Upper Peninsula of the US state of Michigan. Running from Kingsford to near Champion in Humboldt Township, it is the main connection between Iron Mountain and Marquette along with US Highway 41 (US 41). M-95 was previously designated as M-45. The number was switched when US 45 was designated in Michigan. The trunkline incorporates a portion of the former M-12 which became US 2.
