Lynchburg Hillcats
The Lynchburg Hillcats are a Minor League Baseball team in Lynchburg, Virginia that plays in the Carolina League and is the Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. They were a farm team of the Atlanta Braves from 2011 to 2014, the Cincinnati Reds in 2010, and the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1995 to 2009. The Hillcats play home games at Bank of the James Stadium; refurbished and renamed in 2004, the stadium seats 4,291 fans. In May 2016, the franchise announced that they would rebrand after the season. When put to a fan vote for a new moniker with "Derechos", "Doves", "Lamb Chops", "Love Apples", and "River Runners" as options, a majority of fans voted to retain the Hillcats name. They did, however, unveil new logos and a different color scheme, consisting of seven hills green, Blue Ridge blue, and midnight blue, for the 2017 season. Single-A, formerly known as Class A and sometimes as Low-A, is the fourth-highest level of play in Minor League Baseball in the United States, below Triple-A (baseball), Triple-A, Double-A (baseball), Double-A, and High-A. The Texas Rangers are an American professional baseball team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Rangers compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) American League West, West Division. Hurricane Irma was an extremely powerful and devastating tropical cyclone that was the first Category 5 hurricane to strike the Leeward Islands on record, followed by Hurricane Maria, Maria two weeks later. The Newport News Dodgers were a minor league baseball affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1944 to 1955. They played in the Piedmont League and were based in Newport News, Virginia. The teams played at Peninsula War Memorial Stadium on Pembroke Avenue in Hampton, Virginia from 1948 to 1955. The stadium was built by Brooklyn Dodgers president Branch Rickey. Previously, Newport News teams played at Builders' Park on Warwick Road (1944–1947) and prior to that at a ballpark on Wickham Avenue on the East End of Newport News. Portsmouth Cubs
The Portsmouth Cubs were a minor league baseball team based in Portsmouth, Virginia. From 1935 to 1955, Portsmouth teams played exclusively as members of the Class B (baseball), Class B level Piedmont League, which was one of few minor leagues that continued play during World War II. Portsmouth qualified for the Piedmont League playoffs 17 times in 21 seasons, capturing the 1945 league championship, winning league pennants in 1942, 1943 and 1950 while advancing to the league Finals on ten separate occasions. The Harrisonburg Turks were a minor league baseball team based in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The Turks played exclusively as members the Virginia League (1939–42), Virginia League from 1939 to 1941, winning the 1939 league pennant and championship.
