Léman (department)
Léman () was a department of the French First Republic and French First Empire. Its name came from the French name of Lake Geneva, ''Lac Léman''. It was formed in 1798, when the Republic of Geneva was annexed by the French Republic. Léman also included districts that were previously part of the departments of Mont-Blanc (northern Savoy) and Ain (the Pays de Gex). Its territory corresponded with the present Swiss canton of Geneva and parts of the present French departments of Ain and Haute-Savoie. The Chef-lieu of the department was Geneva. The department was subdivided into the following three arrondissements and cantons: * Genève: Carouge, Chêne-Thônex, Collonge, Frangy, Genève (3 cantons), Gex, Reignier and Saint-Julien. * Bonneville: Bonneville, Chamonix, Cluses, Megève, La Roche, Sallanches, Samoëns, Taninges and Viuz-en-Sallaz. * Thonon: Douvaine, Évian, Saint-Jean-d'Aulps and Thonon. Lake Geneva is a deep lake on the north side of the Alps, shared between Switzerland and France. Collège du Léman (CDL) is a Swiss boarding and day school, for boys and girls from 2 to 18 years old, currently based in Versoix, canton of Geneva, Switzerland. It has approximately 1900 students representing more than 100 nationalities and has been accredited by both the European Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). History The school was founded in 1960 by M. Francis Clivaz in response to an influx of wealthy expatriates and foreigners to the cantons of Geneva and Vaud, who sought a bilingual education for their children. Francis Clivaz founded the school on the site of a former institute, on the right bank of Lake Geneva, in the town of Versoix. Léman Manhattan Preparatory School
Léman Manhattan Preparatory School is a private school located in the Financial District, Manhattan. Students are ages two years old through eighteen years old. There are two Lower Manhattan sites. Founded in 2005 as Claremont Preparatory, the school was acquired by the Meritas family of schools in 2011, and subsequently renamed to Léman Manhattan Preparatory School. Several Meritas schools such as Collège du Léman which locates in Switzerland and Léman International School Chengdu which locates in China have incorporated the name Léman. In 2011, Léman joined Meritas, an international network of college preparatory schools. The Léman Express is a commuter rail network for the transborder agglomeration of Grand Genève (''Greater Geneva'') in west Switzerland and the French Alps (Haute-Savoie and Ain). Six lines serve Swiss and French towns along 230 km of railway. At the heart of the Léman Express system is the CEVA (Cornavin‒Eaux-Vives‒Annemasse) rail project linking Eaux-Vives station with Cornavin station in Geneva. This line, largely underground, was opened on 15 December 2019. The Léman Express marked the start of direct services from Genève-Cornavin station to the French cities of Évian, Thonon, Annemasse and Annecy as well as the population of the Arve Valley up to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains. "Dominique" is a 1963 French language popular song, written and performed by Belgian singer Jeannine Deckers, better known as Sœur Sourire ("Sister Smile" in French) or The Singing Nun. The song is about Saint Dominic, a Spanish-born priest and founder of the Dominican Order, of which she was a member (as Sister Luc-Gabrielle).
