Luminița Anghel (; born 7 October 1968) is a Romanian singer, TV personality and politician. She is internationally known for representing Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 along with percussion band Sistem. Their song, " Let Me Try", reached the third place in the final after placing first in the semi-finals; their appearance marks the country's best result in the contest along with 2010's " Playing with Fire" performed by Paula Seling and Ovi. Anghel particularly experienced success in her native country with follow-up recordings, resulting her receiving an offer from Walt Disney Pictures to provide vocals for Tangled's Mother Gothel in 2010. Luminița Dinu
Luminița Dinu (née Huțupan; born 6 November 1971 in Piatra Neamț) is a Romanian handball player. She is considered a handball legend in Romania. She received a silver medal at the 2005 World Championship and was named goalkeeper of the All-Star Team. In January 2011, Dinu was chosen the best female goalkeeper ever in a fans' poll carried out by the International Handball Federation by collecting more than 7000 votes (nearly 94%). For her services to the team and the city, and her exemplary sportsmanship conduct, Dinu was made Honorary Citizen of Râmnicu Vâlcea in 2010. She was also given the award of ''Cetățean de onoare'' (" Honorary Citizen") of Neamț County in 2009. Luminiţa Liliana Dobrescu (born 19 April 1971) is a retired Romanian freestyle swimmer who won four medals at the 1987, 1991 and 1993 European Aquatics Championships. She also participated in the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics in various individual freestyle and team relay events; her best achievement was fifth place in the 200 m freestyle in 1988. Luminița Gheorghiu
Luminița Gheorghiu (; 1 September 1949 – 4 July 2021) was a Romanian film actress, and artistic performer in East Central Europe. She achieved international recognition for her roles in ''The Death of Mr. Lazarescu'' (2006) and '' Child's Pose'' (2013). Gheorghiu's roles were mostly in Romanian and French, including that in ''Code Unknown'' with Juliette Binoche. Gheorghiu was a 1972 graduate of the Institute of Theatrical and Cinematographic Arts in Bucharest, where she studied under professor Ion Cojar. She made her debut in 1971, at the Casandra Theatre, and then played at theaters in Botoșani and Piatra Neamț. From 1976 to 2003, she played at the Bulandra Theatre in Bucharest. Gheorghiu died on 4 July 2021, at the age of 71. Luminița Aura Vese is a Romanian professor of mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles, known for her research in image processing, including work on active contour models, level-set methods, image segmentation, and inpainting. Contributions The Chan–Vese method of image segmentation using active contours is named after her and Tony F. Chan; Chan and Vese published the method in 2001.
