Ludichrist
Ludichrist is an American crossover thrash band formed in Long Island, New York in 1984. They are one of the crossover movement's most prominent groups, alongside Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, D.R.I. History Early history and recordings Ludichrist was founded in 1984 by Al Batross (aka Al Bazin) and Mark Durnex (aka Mark Kanabrocki) in Long Island, New York. The first line-up included Batross on drums, Durnex on guitar, Chud on vocals, and Chuck Valle on bass. Batross, the group's first wordsmith named the group and wrote the lyrics for the core group of songs the band played. Durnex wrote the songs. After a few months Tommy Franco (aka Tommy Christ) replaced Chud as vocalist, and the group produced a demo cassette tape titled "Ludichrist" and leveraged it to book performances at regional venues that allowed punk shows. Glen Cummings (musician)
Glen Cummings is an American thrash metal guitarist best known for his work in Ludichrist, Scatterbrain (band), Scatterbrain, and Stone Deep. Horror Planet In 1984 Glen joined New York psychedelic-punk ensemble Horror Planet. The group featured Paul Quigley (Party Frank), vocals, congas and maracas; Rick Bruccoleri (Hambone Legbone), bass and kazoo; Dave (Funk Ma Da Goonk El Paso Fungalscreen Xtra-Cheese Eggs on a Platter), Drums; Tony Arena (Weasle Worm Crumb Boy) backing vocals, tenor kazoo, and tambourine; and Glen Cummings (Swami Swami Swami), guitar. The group's influences varied from early psychedelic/acid rock, to bubblegum pop, to novelty albums, to proto-punk acts like The Cramps. Scatterbrain (band)
Scatterbrain was an American band from Long Island, New York that played a combination of, among others, heavy metal, thrash metal, funk, and punk, with humorous, ironic lyrics. It was founded in 1989 by Tommy Christ and Glen Cummings after their group Ludichrist broke up. They performed distinctive live shows which might combine a Mozart medley, a Motörhead cover, cross-dressing, and a chicken costume. Their most popular song, "Don't Call Me Dude", was a top-twenty hit in Australia. Its video, directed by George Seminara, received regular rotation on MTV's '' Headbangers Ball'' with Riki Rachtman, and is featured in ''Beavis and Butt-Head''s "Blood Drive" episode. The band contributed a rendition of LL Cool J's " Mama Said Knock You Out" to the soundtrack of the 1992 film '' Encino Man''. Crossover Thrash
Crossover thrash (often abbreviated to crossover) is a fusion genre of thrash metal and hardcore punk. The genre emerged in the mid-1980s, when hardcore punk bands, such as Suicidal Tendencies, Cryptic Slaughter, Corrosion of Conformity and Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, began to incorporate the influence of thrash metal. At this time, the genre was particularly prominent in the New York hardcore scene, where groups including Agnostic Front, Leeway (band), Leeway, Cro-Mags and Stormtroopers of Death were widely influential. Leeway was an American crossover thrash band formed in Astoria, New York in 1984 by guitarist A.J. Novello and vocalist Eddie Sutton under the name The Unruled. John Connelly (musician)
John Connelly (born July 28, 1962) is an American musician, best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of New York City thrash metal band Nuclear Assault. Biography Connelly started as a roadie for thrash metal band Anthrax where he became a close friend of Anthrax bassist Danny Lilker. He formed the band Nuclear Assault in 1983, and Lilker, having left Anthrax, joined him soon after. In 1986, Connelly was a guest vocalist on ''Immaculate Deception'', the first album by New York hardcore band Ludichrist and again on a track called "Goodbye Freedom, Hello Mom" from the 1989 Scatterbrain album ''Here Comes Trouble''. New York hardcore (also known as NYHC) is both the hardcore punk music created in New York City and the subculture and lifestyle (sociology), lifestyle associated with that music. The Six and Violence was an American musical group in the genre of New York hardcore. Established in Queens, New York, United States, in 1985, the band appeared at the seminal club CBGBs and other punk and heavy metal related venues in the New York area between 1985 and 2005. The band released 2 full-length albums and a series of demos, singles, and EPs throughout their career. The Six and Violence is also featured on hardcore and punk compilations from the 1980s and 1990s. The band consisted of 6 members with line-up changes over 20 years.
