In the past, Luby's Inc. also owned the Fuddruckers, Koo Koo Roo, and Cheeseburger in Paradise (restaurant), Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chains. The last location, located in Secaucus, New Jersey, temporarily closed in March 2020 and this was made permanent in September 2020. Koo Koo Roo was an American fast casual restaurant chain specializing in charbroiled chicken founded in 1988 by Los Angeles-based restaurateurs Mike and Ray Badalian. The name "Koo Koo Roo" was an onomatopoeic reference to the crow of a rooster.
