Louth GAA
The Louth County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Louth GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Louth. It oversees competitions such as the Louth Senior Football Championship (SFC), Louth Intermediate Football Championship (IFC), Louth Junior Football Championship (JFC) and Louth Senior Hurling Championship (SHC), as well as numerous underage and secondary competitions. The county board is also responsible for the Louth county teams in both football and hurling. The county football team won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) in 1910, 1912 and again in 1957. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sports, amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, and GAA rounders. Togher, County Louth
Togher () is a large parish in County Louth, Ireland. A rural parish in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Armagh, Togher is situated approximately halfway between Drogheda and Dundalk. Togher lies on the east coast of County Louth and has approximately 5 miles (8 km) of coastline stretching from its border with Clogherhead Parish at the Skinore River in the south to Annagassan bridge in the north, where it adjoins the parish of Drumiskin. Frank Lynch (Gaelic Footballer)
Frank Lynch (born 1938) is an Irish Gaelic games administrator, Gaelic football manager and former player. His league and championship career with the Louth senior team lasted fourteen seasons from 1956 until 1970. Born in Haggardstown, County Louth, Lynch was educated at St. Mary's College in Dundalk. At school he was a promising exponent of rugby union and captained the team before being selected to play for Leinster at youths level. Lynch later joined the Geraldines club with whom he won a county junior championship medal in 1966. After being excluded from the Louth minor because of his rugby exploits, Lynch subsequently joined the senior team and made his debut during the 1956–57 league. Over the following fourteen seasons Lynch had some success, culminating with the winning of a set of All-Ireland and Leinster medals in his debut season. Oliver Plunketts GFC is a GAA club catering for girls, boys, ladies and men, located in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. The club was formed in 1942 by the amalgamation of Ramblers United and St Joseph's. From its base on the Slane road, the club serves the Mell Parish in West Drogheda and fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. In 1957 the club won the Louth Senior Football Championship, defeating St Mary's of Ardee. St Bride's GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is based in the County Louth village of Knockbridge. Dundalk Gaels GFC is a GAA club from Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland which fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organized by Louth GAA. Catchment area The club recruits members from such neighbourhoods as the Carrick Road, Avenue Road, Hill Street, Dublin Road and the Friary school area. Many past and present players of the Gaels were educated at Friary National school. Current status Managed by Kevin McKernan, Gaels are currently the only Dundalk town club competing at senior championship level in Louth football. Tom Burke (Irish Revolutionary And Sportsman)
Thomas Burke (17 February 1894 – 26 August 1967)) was an Irish revolutionary, sportsman and referee. He spent time in 10 British prisons for his revolutionary activities as the founder of the Drogheda Volunteers during the Irish revolutionary period. Burke played inter-county Gaelic football for Louth, and refereed the 1928 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final. He was also an athlete. Early life Thomas Burke was born on 17 February 1894 on Coola Street, Drogheda, County Louth, to Christopher Patrick Burke, secretary of the gas works, and Mary McQuillan. He lived the first 12 years of his life on Coola Street, and was raised in a well-off family. Clan na Gael GFC is a GAA club from Dundalk, County Louth, which fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. Their motto is 'Once a Clan, Always a Clan'. Newtown Blues are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. The club fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. They are the most successful club in Louth football, winning the Louth Senior Football Championship on twenty-three occasions as of 2025. Their most recent title came in 2019. The Blues' clubrooms and pitches are located in Drogheda's east, near St. Joseph's secondary school on the Newfoundwell road. The club's colours are sky blue and white.
