Louisiana Highway 89
Louisiana Highway 89 (LA 89) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in a north–south direction from LA 14 in Delcambre to an intersection with Church Street in Youngsville. The highway parallels the Vermilion–Iberia parish line from Delcambre, a small town partially located in both parishes, to a junction with LA 88 at Lozes. LA 89 then makes a turn into Lafayette Parish and proceeds to Youngsville, a small city and growing bedroom community of nearby Lafayette. Along its route, the highway passes through a mixture of sugar cane fields, older rural residential development, and newer suburban development. LA 89 was created in the 1955 Louisiana Highway renumbering from portions of several former state routes. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is a Federated state, state government organization in the United States, in charge of maintaining public transportation, roadways, bridges, canals, select levees, floodplain management, port facilities, commercial vehicles, and aviation which includes 69 airports, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The agency has approximately five thousand personnel on staff and an operating budget of $2.3 billion. DOTD operations are run through nine district offices across the state. The current DOTD Secretary is Joe Donahue, appointed in January 2024 by Governor of Louisiana, Governor Jeff Landry. Lake Peigneur
Lake Peigneur is a brackish lake in the U.S. state of Louisiana, north of Delcambre and west of New Iberia, near the northernmost tip of Vermilion Bay. With a maximum depth of , it is the deepest lake in Louisiana. Its name comes from the French word "peigneur", meaning "one who combs." Previously, it had been a freshwater lake, popular for recreation, until human activity caused an unusual disaster on November 20, 1980, that changed its structure and the surrounding land. Scott is the fourth largest municipality in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 8,614 as of the 2010 U.S. census, and 8,119 at the 2020 census, up from 7,870 at the 2000 census. Scott is a suburban community of Lafayette and is part of the Lafayette metropolitan statistical area in Acadiana. History In 1902, Gabby Anderson built a western-style saloon to serve as "an exclusive, all-men's bar and a meeting place for old folks." His reason for the saloon is because he believed "this is where the West begins." Billeaud, Louisiana
Billeaud is an unincorporated community in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, United States. The community is located near the intersection of US 90 and LA Hwy 182 . History The town is named after Martial Billeaud, who in 1889 converted his horse powered syrup mill into a steam powered sugar factory. The new factory was constructed at a cost of $50,000 and had a daily capacity of four hundred tons of cane. Area sugar planters had a local mill for their product. The Billeaud Sugar Mill brought a tremendous wave of prosperity to Broussard, which coincided with the previously mentioned sugar boom in southern Louisiana as a whole. Attractions The Billeaud House comes from the Billeaud Sugar Plantation. It was built prior to the American Civil War. Today it is used as a spinning and weaving cottage. Louisiana Highway 182
Louisiana Highway 182 (LA 182) is a state highway located in central and southeastern Louisiana. It runs in a northwest to southeast direction from LA 29 in Whiteville to U.S. Highway 90 (US 90) north of Raceland. Along the way, the highway serves the cities of Opelousas, Lafayette, New Iberia, Morgan City, and Houma. LA 182 is generally bannered as a north–south highway north of Lafayette (where it largely parallels US 167) and as an east–west highway from Lafayette to Raceland (where it parallels US 90). Today, most of LA 182 follows the previous alignments of US 90 and US 167 before their re-routing onto newer four-lane alignments. Maurice is a Town (Louisiana), town in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 964 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census and 2,118 for the 2020 census us, 2020 Census. It is part of the Abbeville, Louisiana, Abbeville Micropolitan Statistical Area, micropolitan statistical area. History The village, originally called ''"Mauriceville"'', derives its name from its founder Maurice Villien. Villien, a native of Savoy, France, came to America in 1855 and sold goods in New Orleans, New Iberia and Milton. His wife had land holdings there and they established a home and grocery store. On May 29, 1889, the site, on which the church and rectory in Maurice were to be built, was donated by Villien. The town was incorporated on December 27, 1911, and Joseph Villien, Maurice's son, became mayor until 1928. Today, Joseph Street leads to the old home.
