Lou Hutt
Lou Hutt was a representative rugby league player who played in the Waikato, Auckland, and in England. He played for New Zealand in 8 tests from 1928 to 1935 and was Kiwi #193. Early life Louis Stanley George Hutt was born in Auckland on July 8, 1904. He was the son of Clara Hannah Hutt and Frederick Stanley John Hutt, while he had a brother named Victor Walter Carder Hutt who was born in 1898. Playing career Waikato Hutt began playing senior rugby league in 1921 at the extremely young age of 16. He was playing for the Ngaruawahia club side in the Lower Waikato competition. On June 12 he played for the Lower Waikato representative team in a match against Hamilton-Cambridge. His side won 27 to 10 at Victoria Square in Cambridge with Hutt playing in the second row. Allan Seagar
Allan Wilfred Seagar (20 June 1903 – 20 April 1984) was a rugby league player who represented New Zealand in 1930 in 9 matches, thus becoming New Zealand's 212th player. He also played for Auckland in 13 matches and played from 1923 to 1941 for Devonport United (North Shore Albions), playing 159 matches. His brother George Seagar also represented New Zealand at rugby league while his son Allan Herbert Seagar was a New Zealand champion swimmer, and represented New Zealand at the 1962 and 1966 Commonwealth Games. 1927 Auckland Rugby League Season
The 1927 Auckland Rugby League season was its 18th. Newton defeated Ponsonby by 6 points to 3 in the championship final to win the Monteith Shield after both teams finished the season tied with identical 8 win, 1 draw, 3 loss records. This was the second time Newton had won the championship in 18 efforts, with the first being in 1912 and was to be their last after they merged decades later with City Rovers and the combined team ceased in the early 2000s. Richmond won the Roope Rooster knockout trophy for the second consecutive season. Newton Rangers defeated Richmond to win the Stormont Shield. Ellerslie won the Norton Cup by winning the second division competition, known as the B Grade at this time. They were undefeated and also won the Stallard Cup which was the B Grade knockout trophy. Richmond Rovers
The Richmond Rovers Rugby League Club is a rugby league club based in Grey Lynn, New Zealand. The premier team is called the Richmond Bulldogs and compete in Auckland Rugby League's Fox Memorial competition. Early history The club was formed in 1913 by employees at Mr. B. W. Davis' Boot Factory and Elliott's, following a scratch game in 1912. The club was originally affiliated with the Eden Ramblers club. In 1883 the land surrounding Grey Lynn Park was subdivided and the houses were built. The area that is now Grey Lynn Park was too steep to build houses on and so, in 1914, the area was drained and flattened so sport could be played. Flood lights were installed at the park in the 1950s. Richmond enjoyed considerable success in the middle decades of the 1900s. South Island Rugby League Team
The South Island rugby league team is a rugby league team that represents the South Island of New Zealand. They are nicknamed the Scorpions. The side previously represented the Southern Zone in the Albert Baskerville Trophy. However, they now only compete in the under 15 and under 17 National Competitions. Historically, teams representing the South Island played annual fixtures against the North Island and also played touring international sides. 1926 Auckland Rugby League Season
The 1926 season of the Auckland Rugby League was its 17th. Ponsonby won the Monteith Shield, the major first grade title after defeating City Rovers in the final. Richmond won their first ever senior trophy when they won the Roope Rooster. On the last week of the season these teams met for the Stormont Shield with Ponsonby winning by 15 points to 5 over. Northcote won the B Division championship, with Kingsland winning the Stallard Cup for taking out the B division knockout competition. The representative season was dominated by a long series of trial matches to assist in selecting the New Zealand team to tour England. City Rovers
The City Newton Dragons are a defunct New Zealand rugby league club that was based at Victoria Park, Auckland. The club was created in 1948 by a merger of two original clubs, the City Rovers and Newton Rangers. Both the Rovers and the Rangers participated in the inaugural Auckland Rugby League competition in 1910. In 2004, the club was absorbed by the Ponsonby Ponies, who play a match in the City Newton colours annually to keep the heritage of the club alive.
