Gene Day
Howard Eugene Day (August 13, 1951 – September 23, 1982) was a Canadian comics artist best known for his work on Marvel Comics' ''Star Wars'' licensed series and ''Master of Kung Fu''. He was considered a mentor by independent comic writer/artist Dave Sim. Biography Early career Gene Day began his career with Canadian underground and independent comics, for which he published the short-lived title ''Out of the Depths'' in 1974, and collaborated with Dave Sim on ''Oktoberfest Comics'' #1 (Now and Then Publications, 1976). Lynn Willis
Lynn Willis (died January 18, 2013) was a wargame and role-playing game designer, best known for his work with Metagaming Concepts, Game Designers' Workshop (GDW), and Chaosium. Biography Willis began by designing science fiction wargames for Metagaming Concepts, starting with ''Godsfire'' in 1976. He designed the MicroGames '' Olympica'' (1978) and '' Holy War'' (1979). Chaosium published '' Lords of the Middle Sea'' (1978), and Willis joined Chaosium in 1978. GDW published '' Bloodtree Rebellion'' (1979). Willis's relationship with Chaosium proved the most enduring; he would turn to role-playing games. He helped founder Greg Stafford trim and refine the ''RuneQuest'' rules into ''Basic Role-Playing'', the rules that would serve as the base for many of Chaosium's RPG lines. It quickly grew in importance and was an important and influential magazine in its subject matter from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. Metagaming Concepts, later known simply as Metagaming, was a company that published board games from 1974 to 1983. It was founded and owned by Howard Thompson, who designed the company's first game, ''Stellar Conquest''. The company also invented Microgames and published Steve Jackson's first designs, including ''Ogre'', '' G.E.V.'' and '' The Fantasy Trip''. Eric Goldberg is an American game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games. Career For Simulations Publications, Incorporated (SPI), Eric Goldberg designed ''Commando'', a man-to-man tactical combat game featuring character creation and skills. Goldberg also designed ''DragonQuest'' (1980), SPI's biggest roleplaying game and perhaps its first true roleplaying game. Goldberg also contributed to Chaosium's ''Thieves' World'' (1981). Goldberg and his long-time friend and SPI co-worker Greg Costikyan approached Dan Gelber about turning Gelber's RPG design called 'Paranoia' from a game he ran for his local group into a professional product. Gelber gave Goldberg and Costikyan his notes and they turned those ideas into a complete manuscript. ''Basic Role-Playing'' (''BRP'') is a tabletop role-playing game which originated in the '' RuneQuest'' fantasy role-playing game. Chaosium released the ''BRP'' standalone booklet in 1980 in the boxed set release of the second edition of ''RuneQuest''. Greg Stafford and Lynn Willis are credited as the authors. Chaosium used the percentile skill-based system as the basis for most of their games, including '' Call of Cthulhu'', '' Stormbringer'', and '' Elfquest''.
