Looking Back (Toyah Willcox Album)
''Looking Back'' is a studio album by the British singer Toyah Willcox, released in 1995. It is a collection of re-recordings of songs from her back catalogue, mostly classic hits from the Toyah band repertoire. The material was originally conceived as part of a double album ''Toyah Classics'' slated for release in March 1995. The two sets would eventually be released individually, with ''Looking Back'' as an 'electric' accompaniment to '' The Acoustic Album'', released the following year. The album has never been re-released digitally. Toyah Willcox
Toyah Ann Willcox (born 18 May 1958) is an English singer-songwriter, actress, and television presenter. In a career spanning more than 40 years, she has had eight top 40 singles, released over 20 albums, written two books, appeared in over 40 stage plays and 10 feature films, and voiced and presented numerous television shows. Between 1977 and 1983, Willcox fronted the eponymous band Toyah (band), Toyah, before embarking on a solo career in the mid-1980s. At the Brit Awards 1982, Willcox was nominated for Brit Award for Best New Artist, British Breakthrough Act, and Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist, Best Female Solo Artist. She was nominated a further two times in this category in 1983, and in 1984. Keith Hale
Keith Hale (born 6 November 1950) is an English songwriter, composer, record producer, performer and music teacher, most notable for his work with Toyah Willcox, Hawkwind and Ginger Baker. Biography The Yorkshire-born musician moved south when he was ten. Whilst in his final year at primary school he won first prize in the Cadbury's National Essay Competition for Schools. As a teenager he moved back to Hull to join Nothineverappens "Yorkshire's premier psychedelic band". Returning to London he played in the Bromley based band Aslan (with Geoff Knowles, Tony Fleet and Tony O'Leary), who performed around South London, and at Chislehurst caves and free concerts with David Bowie in the Library gardens, Bromley. He then collaborated in "Silly Balls", a mixed-media project designed to maximise audience participation but this proved too unwieldy to be commercially viable. Wishbone Ash are a British Rock music, rock band who achieved success in the early to mid-1970s. "Ieya" is a song by the English new wave band Toyah, fronted by Toyah Willcox. It was first released as a single in 1980 by Safari Records to promote the album ''The Blue Meaning''. It was re-recorded and re-issued in 1982, and met with minor chart success in the UK. Background "Ieya" started off as a jam in the soundcheck before the band's concert in Bath, where it was subsequently performed as the fourth encore that night. Toyah recalled that the band "walked on stage and started 'Ieya', and within the first sixteen bars the audience was behaving in a way I'd never seen before. It first appeared on the band's 1979 LP '' Sheep Farming in Barnet'', and a live version of the song was subsequently released as a single in 1980 by Safari Records to promote the concert album ''Toyah! Adrian Lee (musician)
Adrian Lee (born 9 September 1957, London, England) is an English musician known for his work with several well-known acts of the 1980s. Career Lee was first signed to Phonogram Records in the late 1970s as guitarist with the band, Red Hot. They released one single, "L-L-Lazy Days" (1976), which was produced by Mutt Lange. Lee's first big engagement led him to play guitar and keyboards on Cliff Richard's late 1970s tours, and his 1979 album, '' Rock 'n' Roll Juvenile''. In 1980, Lee became a member of the British new wave band Toyah, co-writing songs including the hit single, "Thunder in the Mountains", and he stayed with them until 1982. "It's a Mystery" is a song by English new wave band Toyah, fronted by Toyah Willcox, released as a single in 1981 by Safari Records. The song was a hit in the UK where it peaked in the number 4 in the charts as the lead track on the EP '' Four from Toyah''. Background The song was originally written by Keith Hale for the band Blood Donor, but the record company Safari wanted Toyah to record it. Although Toyah Willcox wrote the lyrics of the second verse, she is officially not credited as a co-writer of the song and does not receive royalties for it.
