''The Lone Star'' was a semiweekly newspaper published in El Paso, Texas, from 1881 to 1886. It was founded and edited by Simeon Newman, a Kentucky native born in 1846. Known for its pugnacious and reform-minded stance, The Lone Star played a significant role in the El Paso's early development. Early History and New Mexico Roots Before its establishment in El Paso, Texas, the newspaper that would become The Lone Star operated under different names and in various locations within New Mexico. In 1871, Simeon H. Newman began his career as an apprentice newspaperman for Ashton Upson at the ''Weekly Mail'' in Las Vegas, New Mexico. After only six weeks, Upson sold the paper to Newman. ''Lone Star'' is a wooden hull, steam-powered stern-wheeled towboat in LeClaire, Iowa, United States. She is dry docked and on display at the Buffalo Bill Museum in LeClaire. Built in 1868, she is the oldest of three surviving steam-powered towboats, and the only one with a wooden hull. Lone Star Products Ltd. was the brand name used by the British company Die Cast Machine Tools Ltd (DCMT) for its toy products. DCMT was based in Welham Green, Hertfordshire, north of London. Company history Starting as early as 1939, DCMT manufactured die cast toys for children. Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon was an American casual dining restaurant chain with a single independently owned and operated franchise still in business in 2021 on the island of Guam. The chain served steak, seafood, salad, and similar food items. Lone Star opened its first restaurant in 1989 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In March 1992, Lone Star became a public company with eight restaurants opened. At its maximum, 267 Lone Star Steakhouses were in operation.
