London Declaration On Combating Anti-Semitism
The London Declaration on Combating Antisemitism is a declaration which asserts the need for global cooperation in the fight against Antisemitism by drawing "The Democratic world’s attention to the resurgence of Antisemitism as a potent force in politics, international affairs and society". It was signed on February 17, 2009, in Lancaster House, during the Conference and Summit of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism, by some of the world's leading parliamentarians. Background The first annual conference of the " Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism" (ICCA) was held in London, England in February, 2009. Inter-parliamentary Coalition For Combating Antisemitism
The Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism (ICCA) is an international coalition of Parliamentarians from around the world that work together to combat antisemitism. Among its goals is the understanding and awareness of modern antisemitism and ways to combat it on a global scale. The first annual conference of the ICCA was held in London, England in cooperation with the British Government in 2009 and produced the London Declaration on Combating Antisemitism. Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was the first world leader to sign the Declaration. It has subsequently been signed by several additional Prime Ministers across the globe and more than 600 Parliamentarians worldwide. The second annual conference was held in Ottawa, Canada in association with the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism and the Canadian Government on November 7–9, 2010. New Antisemitism
New antisemitism is the concept that a new form of antisemitism developed in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, typically manifesting itself as anti-Zionism. The concept is included in some definitions of antisemitism, such as the working definition of antisemitism and the 3D test of antisemitism. The concept dates to the early 1970s. Proponents of the concept generally posit that in the late 20th and early 21st centuries much of what is purported to be criticism of Israel is in fact tantamount to demonization, and that together with evidence of a resurgence of antisemitic attacks on Jews, desecration of Jewish symbols and Judaism, Holocaust denial, and an increased acceptance of antisemitic beliefs in public discourse and online hate speech, such demonization represents an evolution in the appearance of antisemitic beliefs.
