London Buses route SL5 is a Transport for London contracted London Superloop, Superloop express bus route in London, England. Running between Bromley North railway station, Bromley North station and Croydon, it is operated by Arriva London. The route partially parallels London Buses route 119, route 119. History On 21 July 2023, a consultation for route SL5 was opened by Transport for London, and closed on 4 September the same year. On 5 December 2023, it was confirmed that the route would be introduced. Route SL5 was introduced on 3 February 2024. It is operated by Arriva London from their South Croydon bus garage, Croydon garage. Unlike other Superloop routes, which are operated by double deck buses, the SL5 is operated with single deck Alexander Dennis Enviro200 buses due to overhanging trees on South Eden Park Road. Croydon is a large town in south London, England, south of Charing Cross. Part of the London Borough of Croydon, a local government district of Greater London. East Croydon is a railway station and tram stop in Croydon, Greater London, England, and is located in Travelcard Zone 5. Double Deck Bus
A double-decker bus or double-deck bus is a bus that has two storeys or decks. They are used for mass transport in the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and also in cities such as Sydney; the best-known example is the Buses in London, red London bus, namely the AEC Routemaster. Early double-deckers put the driver in a separate cab. Passenger access was via an open platform at the rear and a bus conductor collected fares. Modern double-deckers have a main entrance door at the front and the driver takes fares, thus halving the number of workers aboard, but slowing the boarding process. The rear open platform, popular with passengers, was abandoned for safety reasons, as there was a risk of passengers falling when running and jumping onto the bus. London Superloop
Superloop is a partially implemented express bus network in London, England. It will form part of the London Buses network and is planned to connect outer London town centres, railway stations and transport hubs. Orbital express bus routes were proposed in 2008 by Mayor of London Boris Johnson, with further proposals by the London Assembly in 2017. The 'Superloop' concept was announced in 2023 by Sadiq Khan, consisting of renumbering and improvements to existing express bus routes and the introduction of new express bus routes. Alexander Dennis Enviro200
The Alexander Dennis Enviro200 (previously known as the TransBus Enviro200) is a midibus that was manufactured by TransBus International and later Alexander Dennis between 2003 and 2018. The original TransBus Enviro200 design was innovative but ultimately unsuccessful, with few being sold before the introduction of the second generation Enviro200 (originally referred to as the Enviro200 Dart) revived sales for the product from 2006. It was supposed to be positioned in between a minibus and a rigid single-decker bus. The Enviro200 was originally designed to be the replacement for the Dennis Dart SLF chassis and Alexander ALX200 and Plaxton Pointer 2 bodies. The Enviro200 MMC was launched in 2014, eventually replacing the original Enviro200 and Enviro300, which went out of production in 2018 and 2016 respectively.
