Local Kung Fu (film Series)
The Local Kung Fu film series consists of Assamese Kung fu martial arts-comedy film. Created by Kenny Deori Basumatary. The films revolve around the locality of Guwahati city, and Kung fu art. The story is pushed forward by a gang of thugs, their misadventures, unenthusiastic, messy, and problematic handling of their illicit activities. The first movie was an independent film shot on Handycam. It grossed over 18 times its production budget. Subsequent installments received mixed responses, usually dwarfed by simultaneous releases with pan India big budget films. Kenny Deori Basumatary
Kenny Deori Basumatary is an Indian actor and film director. He has appeared in Hindi and Assamese films as an actor, and as director in Assamese films. He is popularly known for directing the Assamese martial arts comedy film Local Kung Fu and its sequel, which he also starred in. It was nominated for best Assamese film in the inaugural Filmfare awards for the Eastern region. The budget of the film was Rs.95,000. Early life Kenny dropped out of college while pursuing Computer Engineering in IIT Delhi. After that, he worked as a newsreader for an Assamese News channel. Film career In 2009, Kenny moved to Mumbai to attend film scripting workshop, in which his martial arts based script did not make it to top six. Handycam is a line of camcorders made by Sony and introduced in 1985. Handycam was first used as the name of the first Video8 camcorder in 1985, replacing Sony's previous line of Betamovie, Betamax-based models of camcorders.
