Local Government Areas Of Western Australia
There are 137 local government areas (LGAs) in Western Australia, which comprise 27 cities, 102 shires, and 8 towns that manage their own affairs to the extent permitted by the '' Local Government Act 1995''. The ''Local Government Act 1995'' also makes provision for regional local governments (referred to as "regional councils", established by two or more local governments for a particular purpose. The City of Perth is a local government areas of Western Australia, local government area and body, within the Perth metropolitan area, which is the capital of Western Australia. The local government is commonly known as Perth City Council. The City covers the Perth (suburb), Perth city centre and surrounding suburbs. The City covers an area of and had an estimated population of 21,092 as at 30 June 2015. On 1 July 2016 the City expanded, absorbing 1,247 residents from the City of Subiaco. The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is a department of the Government of Western Australia. The department was formed on 1 July 2017, out of the former Department of Culture & the Arts, Department of Local Government & Communities, Department of Racing, Gaming & Liquor and the Department of Sport & Recreation. The Barnett Ministry was the 35th Ministry of the Government of Western Australia. It included 13 members of the Liberal Party, three members of the National Party and an independent. City Of Subiaco
The City of Subiaco is a Local government areas of Western Australia, local government area in Western Australia. It covers an area of approximately 7 km² in inner western metropolitan Perth and lies about 3 km west of the Perth central business district, CBD. The City includes the historically working-class suburb of Subiaco, Western Australia, Subiaco centred around Rokeby Road. Since the 1990s the area has been extensively redeveloped and gentrified. History A group of Benedictine monks settled in Subiaco in 1851. They called their monastery New Subiaco after the birthplace of the Benedictine Order – Subiaco, Italy. In 1881, the name Subiaco was adopted for a railway station near the monastery, and later for the cluster of houses and businesses that became the present Subiaco. The City of South Perth is a local government area in the inner southern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth about south of Perth's central business district. The City covers an area of , maintains of roads and a little over 4.3 km2 of parks and gardens, and had a population of about 42,000 at the 2016 Census. The Minister for Local Government is a position in the Cabinet of Western Australia, first created in 1949 during the McLarty–Watts Ministry.
