Llangernyw Yew
The Llangernyw Yew () is an ancient yew (''Taxus baccata'') in the village of Llangernyw, Conwy County Borough, Conwy, Wales. The tree is fragmented and its core part has been lost, leaving several enormous offshoots. The girth of the tree at the ground level is . History This yew tree lives in the churchyard of St. Digain's Church in Llangernyw village. Although it is very hard to determine the age of yew trees, the churchyard gate holds a certificate from the Yew Tree Campaign in 2002, signed by David Bellamy, which states that "according to all the data we have to hand" the tree is dated to between 4,000 and 5,000 years old. David Bellamy used the same methods as he did when establishing the age of the Tisbury Yew in Wiltshire, including radiocarbon dating. The Defynnog Yew () (SN9253027960) is one of a group of ancient yews (''Taxus baccata'') in the churchyard of St Cynog's Church, which serves the parish and the village of Defynnog, Powys, Wales. Defynnog is located close to Sennybridge, about ten miles west of Brecon, within the Brecon Beacons National Park (Bannau Brycheiniog). Llangernyw () is a rural, mostly Welsh-speaking, village and community in Conwy County Borough, North Wales. Overview At the 2011 census, the community had a population of 1,079 of whom 63.7 percent were Welsh speakers. The comparable figures for the 2001 census were a population of 982, 67 per cent of whom were Welsh speakers. The population of the village itself is around 400. The village lies on the A548 between Llanrwst and Llanfair Talhaiarn, at the point where the Afon Cledwen, a tributary of the Afon Elwy, is crossed by the main road. Situated on the outskirts of the village is Hafodunos Hall, a gothic mansion ravaged by fire in 2004, and currently being restored by a private owner.
