Live And Learn (TV Series)
''Live and Learn'', original title ''Course of Knowledge'', was a Canadian educational television series which aired on CBC Television from 1959 to 1965. Premise This series presented courses on the sciences and humanities. It was co-produced by the CBC and the University of Toronto, initially airing as a local show on CBLT Toronto and eventually seen throughout the CBC network. Initial course shows were produced in Toronto and later produced in other Canadian cities. At least one course broadcast in this series was imported from a United States educational production. Scheduling This half-hour series was broadcast on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. (Eastern) from 15 October 1959 to 12 May 1965, with repeat broadcasts on Sundays at 12:30 p.m. Initially, this was a local CBLT Toronto broadcast, but was eventually carried by other CBC network stations. CBLT
CBLT-DT (channel 5) is a television station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, serving as the flagship station of the English-language service of CBC Television. It is part of a twinstick with Ici Radio-Canada Télé outlet CBLFT-DT (channel 25). The two stations share studios at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre on Front Street West in downtown Toronto, which is also shared with national cable news channel CBC News Network and houses the studios for most of the CBC's news and entertainment programs. Donald Ivey
Donald G. Ivey (6 February 1922 - 25 June 2018) was the principal of the University of Toronto's New College from 1963 to 1974. Career After receiving his PhD in 1949, he joined the University of Toronto’s Department of Physics as Assistant Professor of Physics, becoming a full Professor in 1963. In collaboration with his colleague Patterson Hume, Ivey helped to steer the teaching of physics in a new direction through the use of educational television programs and movies. Hume and Ivey prepared and presented over one hundred television programs for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on various physics topics. Short films such as ''Frames of Reference'' and the TV show ''The Nature of Things'' used humour and creative camerawork to make physics accessible to a wider range of students. ''University of the Air'' was a daily distance education television program seen early mornings on the CTV Television Network in Canada between October 11, 1965 and 1983; prior to the establishment of 24-hour broadcasting, in most regions it was the first program aired each day, usually at 5:30 or 6 a.m., though it would also turn up at other times. Each episode consisted of a lecture given by a university instructor. Individual episodes of this series were produced locally by CTV affiliates nationwide, for national broadcast on the CTV network under national co-ordinator Nancy Fraser. Previous lectures of this series were also broadcast on TVO and CHCH-TV Hamilton, both as part of TVO's educational television schedule.
