This page is a discography for American musician Little Richard (1932–2020). Described as " the architect of rock and roll", Little Richard was a pioneering singer-songwriter whose career also encompassed rhythm and blues, soul, and gospel. He began his recording career in 1951, signing to RCA Victor, releasing his first singles, and his first album in 1957, although he released his last album in 1992, he continued to tour into the 21st century. He attained international success after signing with Specialty Records in 1955. Richard Wayne Penniman (December 5, 1932 – May 9, 2020), known professionally as Little Richard, was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was an influential figure in popular music and culture for seven decades. Described as the " Architect of Rock and Roll", Richard's most celebrated work dates from the mid-1950s, when his charismatic showmanship and dynamic music, characterized by frenetic piano playing, pounding back beat and raspy shouted vocals, laid the foundation for rock and roll. End Records was a record label founded in 1957 by George Goldner. In 1962 the label was acquired by Morris Levy and incorporated into Roulette Records. Among its more successful recording acts were the Flamingos, the Chantels, and Little Anthony and the Imperials; it also recorded singles by Marilyn Monroe and Wilt Chamberlain. ''Right Now!'' is a studio album by Little Richard, released in 1974. It was released without much publicity on the United Records label. The album features "Chain Chain Chain", more commonly known under the title "Chain of Fools". History ''Right Now!'' was recorded in January 1973, at Cadet Records, Los Angeles, California, and issued with no publicity as a low-budget LP. Richard himself recalled that: "We were about to start a tour and we needed some money. The Second Coming (Little Richard Album)
''The Second Coming'' was Little Richard's third album for Reprise Records, released in 1972. The album saw him reunited with Robert "Bumps" Blackwell from his Specialty days, with them co-writing the majority of the album together. The concept was to unite the best rock studio musicians of the '50s with the best rock studio musicians of the '70s. The album failed to chart. The King Of Rock And Roll
''The King of Rock and Roll'' is an album by Little Richard, released in 1971. It was his second album for Reprise Records. It was rereleased as part of the ''King of Rock and Roll: The Complete Reprise Recordings'' set. Production ''The King of Rock and Roll'' was produced and arranged by H. B. Barnum. It contains one original Little Richard song, the gospel rock "In the Name", and a new song co-written by Barnum, "Green Power", the album's single. The rest of the tracks are covers. The title track is a mock braggadocio that references Tom Jones, Elvis Presley, Ike & Tina Turner, Sly and the Family Stone and Aretha Franklin, among others. The album title and cover art were inspired by Little Richard's image in the early 1970s, when he would often appear in public wearing robes, jewelry, and a crown. It was considered a comeback album for Richard, following a three-year hiatus on new albums and an acclaimed performance at Atlantic City Pop Festival. Okeh Records () is an American record label founded by the Otto Heinemann Phonograph Corporation, a phonograph supplier established in 1916, which branched out into phonograph records in 1918. The name was spelled "OkeH" from the initials of Otto K. E. Heinemann but later changed to "OKeh". Since 1926, Okeh has been a subsidiary of Columbia Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music. Okeh is a jazz imprint, distributed by Sony Masterworks, a specialty label of Columbia. ''The Explosive Little Richard'' is the first album by Little Richard for Okeh Records, produced by his long-time friend Larry Williams and Johnny "Guitar" Watson. The songs reflect the then-popular soul and Motown musical styles; no tracks were written by Richard. Recording At the time, Richard had wished Okeh would not release this album, as it favored horns over rhythm. In Charles White's 1984 biography ''The Life and Times of Little Richard'', Richard noted he "was in the second year of the Okey (sic) contract and there was still no hit record. So I tore it up. ''Little Richard's Greatest Hits'' (with various titles and cover art) is an album of Little Richard songs re-recorded in 1964 and first released in the US by Vee-Jay Records in January 1965. It features updated versions of twelve of his best-known songs originally recorded in the 1950s for Specialty Records. Some of these re-recordings use different musical arrangements, including unusual syncopation, tambourine and jazz horns. Background Little Richard recorded forty-six songs for Vee-Jay Records, but nearly half of them were unreleased when the company filed for bankruptcy in January 1966. Vee-Jay Records is an American record label founded in the 1950s, located in Chicago and specializing in blues, jazz, rhythm and blues and rock and roll. ''Little Richard Is Back (And There's a Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On!)'' is Little Richard's first album of rock and roll songs for Vee-Jay Records. The label went out of business and its records were not accurate, leaving many to speculate about the recording details. Despite claims to the contrary, Jimi Hendrix does not play on any of the album's songs. Background After leaving Specialty Records in 1957 to record gospel music, Richard recorded twenty tracks for Goldner Records in the summer of 1959, in New York City, on his break from Bible College, in Huntsville, Alabama. Although tempted back to record rock and roll with his old band the Upsetters for Little Star Records in 1962, he soon went back to gospel, recording for Atlantic Records in 1963. A successful British tour finally made Richard return to his rock and roll roots, and tracks for singles were cut in 1964 with Specialty, though not enough for an album.
