Maynooth Students' Union (MSU; ) is the students' union which represents the students of Maynooth University and St. Patrick's Pontifical University, formerly St. Patrick's College, Maynooth. Maynooth Students' Union is a constituent organisation of Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn (formerly known as the Union of Students in Ireland or USI). MSU rejoined USI in 2009 after disaffiliating from it in 2001. In 2013, 2016, and 2019 there were other student body referendums to disaffiliate from the USI, but students voted to remain. The original students' union building and bar (on the west of the north campus) was replaced in 1993, shortly after the development of the restaurant and sports building, which was built in 1991. This housed the student's union offices and shop which had been in the Arts faculty block. Maynooth University (MU) (), is a constituent university of the National University of Ireland in Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland. Maynooth University was formerly known as National University of Ireland, Maynooth (NUIM; ). Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn (AMLÉ), formerly known as the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), is the national representative body for third-level students in Ireland, being an confederal organisation consisting of third-level students' unions. Founded in 1959, it represents more than 374,000 students in over forty colleges across the island of Ireland. Former presidents of the organisation include former Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, former Chief Justice John L. Murray (1966/67), and broadcaster Joe Duffy (1983–84).
