Athletics At The 1952 Summer Olympics – Men's 1500 Metres
The men's 1500 metres event at the 1952 Olympics took place between July 24 and July 26. Fifty-two athletes from 26 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Josy Barthel of Luxembourg; to date, this is the only Olympic gold medal won by a Luxembourger, though Luxembourg-born Michel Théato is credited for winning the 1900 Marathon for France. Germany won its first medal in the 1500 metres with Werner Lueg's bronze. Summary The early leaders of the final were Audun Boysen followed by Warren Druetzler. The Soviet national ice hockey team was the national men's ice hockey team of the Soviet Union. 1957 Ice Hockey World Championships
The 1957 Ice Hockey World Championships were held between 24 February and 5 March 1957 at the Palace of Sports of the Central Lenin Stadium in Moscow, USSR. This was the last World Championships played on natural ice; and were the first World Championships held in the Soviet Union and they are remembered for the political circumstances surrounding the games. Hungary had been recently occupied by the Soviet Army (to suppress a revolution in October and November 1956), and as a result, the United States and Canada boycotted the World Championships in protest. Joining them were Norway, West Germany, Italy and Switzerland. East Germany participated at the top level for the first time. Camille Nimr Chamoun (, ; 3 April 19007 August 1987) was a Lebanese politician who served as the 2nd president of Lebanon from 1952 to 1958. He was one of the country's main Christian leaders during most of the Lebanese Civil War. Early years and education Camille Nimr Chamoun was born at Deir al-Qamar on 3 April 1900 into a middle-class Maronite family. He received a law degree from Saint Joseph University. Career and activities Chamoun was first elected to the Lebanese parliament in 1934, and was reelected in 1937 and 1943.
