Gaya District
} Gaya district is one of the thirty-eight districts of the Indian state of Bihar. It was officially established on 3 October 1865. The district has a common boundary with the state of Jharkhand to the south. Gaya city is both the district headquarters and the second-largest city in Bihar. History Gaya finds mention in the great epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. Ram along with Sita and Lakshman visited Gaya for offering ''Pind-Daan'' to their father Dasharath. In Mahabharata, the place has been identified as Gayapuri. About the origin of the name ‘Gaya' as referred to in Vayu Purana is that Gaya was the name of a demon (Asura) whose body was pious after he performed rigid penance and secured blessings from Vishnu. Neyamatpur
Neyamatpur is a village in Gaya district of Bihar, India. The village was a bastion of the Indian National Congress and Kisan Andolan during the British period. "Pandit" Yadunandan Sharma, at the instruction of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati established an ashram here in 1933. Etymology and History Neyamatpur is derived from the Urdu word (from Persian) ''niyamat'', meaning blessing and the Sanskrit word ''pur'', meaning village. Hence, Neyamatpur translates to the "Blessed Village" or the "Village of Blessings". Not much known is known of the history of the village beyond a hundred years due to the lack of the written record. Gehlaur
Gehlaur is a village located in Muhra Tehsil of Gaya district in Bihar State, India. Notability Gehlaur was the home of the legendary ‘Mountain Man’ Dashrath Manjhi. He was a poor man who worked as a labourer in Gehlaur village. He carved a path through a mountain in the Gehlaur Hills using only a hammer and chisel as his tools because his village did not have easy access to a hospital. The nearest town which could offer a good doctor and required medical attention was 70 km away traveling around the hills.
