University Of Cape Verde
The University of Cape Verde (, abbreviated "Uni-CV") is the only public university of Cape Verde. The main campus is in Palmarejo, Cape Verde, Palmarejo, Praia, but there are also institutes in Mindelo, Assomada and São Jorge dos Órgãos. It has over 5000 students. A new campus for Uni-CV is under construction in Palmarejo, financed by the Chinese government. It should be completed by July 2020. It will have capacity for 4,890 students and 476 professors, with a library, dorms, cafeterias and sports facilities. It will have 61 class rooms, five auditoriums with a capacity of 150 seats, eight computer rooms, eight reading rooms and 34 laboratories. The Universidade de Santiago (abbreviation: US) is a private Cape Verdean university. The main campus is in Assomada (subdivision Bolanha), located in the middle of the Island of Santiago. There are two satellite campuses, one in Praia (subdivision Prainha) and another one in Tarrafal. It is one of the eight existing universities in Cape Verde; it was established on November 24, 2008. Since its opening in 2008, it has been run by the current rector Gabriel António Monteiro Fernandes, who holds a Ph.D. in Sociology. As of August 2018, the university of Santiago offers nineteen (17) undergraduate degrees, and seven (7) graduate (master's degrees) degrees. In addition, it offers vocational degrees, such as multimedia development, electromechanics studies and solar power system, and rural tourism and ecology. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade was to be officially branded as the FISU World University Games. The most recent summer event was the 2021 Summer World University Games held in Chengdu, China from 28 July – 8 August 2023, after being postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde () is a private university in Cape Verde. The university is named after the famous Swiss child psychologist and philosopher Jean Piaget. The university was established on 7 May 2001, and now has about 2,000 students and 380 academic staff. The main campus is in the capital city Praia ( Palmarejo subdivision) on the island of Santiago, with a smaller second location in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente, opened in 2005.
