Badhan, Sanaag
Badhan ( so, Badhan; ar, برن), also known as Baran is a city in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. Overview It was always in danger of flooding during the raining seasons. In 1971, the town was re-located near a borewell called Badhan and it has assumed the name ever since. The area was first settled in the 14th century by Somali herdsmen from the Warsangali subclan of the Darod clan, as there was water available for their flocks. Badhan is also famous for being the stage of battles between the Dervishes of Mohammed Abdullah Hassan and the Sultanate of Warsangeli. Hassan, the leader of Dervishes, ordered the construction of a new grand fort in the city. Nowadays, the fort is in need of restoration, as time has worn it down. Politics Badhan served as the capital of Maakhir state, which was later incorporated into Puntland in January 2009. Maakhir University
Maakhir University ( so, Jaamacada Maakhir, ar, جامعة ماخر) is a university supported by the Puntland government in the eastern Sanaag region. Sanaag region is also claimed by the government of Somaliland. Overview Situated in Badhan, the college was established with the purpose of providing affordable higher education to residents of the province and elsewhere in the nation. According to the institution's website, Maakhir University offers undergraduate degrees with the ultimate goal of contributing to the development of Somali society. The Sanaag, Maakhir diaspora community has been the university's main sponsor since the outbreak of Somalia's civil war in the early 1990s. Las Anod
Las Anod ( so, Laascaanood; ar, لاسعانود) is the administrative capital of the Sool, Somaliland, Sool region of Somaliland. Territorial dispute The city is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The former bases its claim due to the kinship ties between the Dhulbahante clan and the dominant clan in Puntland, the Majeerteen, whilst the latter's claim is grounded on the border of the former British Somaliland Protectorate. The city was the proclaimed capital of Khatumo State throughout its existence until its dissolvement in 2017. Somaliland forces captured the city in the Battle of Las Anod in 2007, ousting Puntland forces, and has maintained full control of the city in all aspects since. Ilays National University
Ilays National University (INU), is a university in Las Anod, Somaliland. The university was established by Prof. Tungub, who at first set up the Ilays Educational Academy. Berbera Marine College is a naval military academy located in the port city of Berbera in Somaliland, a self-declared independent republic that is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia.
