Tenant Union
A tenants union, also known as a renters' union or a tenants association, is a group of tenants that collectively organize to improve the conditions of their housing and mutually educate about their Landlord–tenant law, rights as renters. Groups may also lobby local officials to change housing policies or address homelessness. Definitions In 1966, Schwartz and Davis defined a tenant union as "an organization of tenants formed to bargain collectively with their landlord for an agreement defining the parties' mutual obligations. In 2024, Baltz defined ''tenant associations'' as groups of tenants, generally in the same building or development, who organize to collectively advocate against their landlord and ''tenant unions'' as membership-based organizations who collectively organize across properties or geographic regions. Tenant associations are often formed in buildings where tenants are agitated over evictions, rent increases, conditions, or treatment. They may operate inde ...

Union Local
A local union (often shortened to local), in North America, or union branch (known as a lodge in some unions), in the United Kingdom and other countries, is a local branch (or chapter) of a usually national trade union. The terms used for sub-branches of local unions vary from country to country and include "shop committee", "shop floor committee", "board of control", "chapel", and others. Local branches are organised to represent the union's members from a particular geographic area, company, or business sector. Local unions have their own governing bodies which represent the interests of the national union while at the same time responding to the desires of their constituents, and organise regular meetings for members. Local branches may also affiliate to a local trades council. In the United States and Canada, local unions are usually numbered (e.g. CWA Local 2101 in Baltimore, Maryland or ILA Local 273 in Saint John, New Brunswick). In the United Kingdom, they are usually nam ...

Kansas City Tenants Union
The Kansas City Tenants Union, also known as KC Tenants, is a politically left-wing non-profit tenant's union in Kansas City, Missouri. It was founded in 2019 by Tiana Caldwell and Tara Raghuveer. History KC Tenants was founded with an annual budget of $30,000, which has grown to almost $600,000 in June 2023. The union has worked together with Mayor Quinton Lucas on housing policy, notably passing a tenant's bill of rights in 2019 that included banning "discrimination against prospective tenants solely because of a prior arrest, conviction or eviction." KC Tenants has clashed with landlords and the courts over specific eviction cases and the COVID eviction moratorium. Bozeman Tenants United
Bozeman Tenants United is a left-leaning tenants' union based in Bozeman, Montana. According to the Tenant Union Federation, which Bozeman Tenants United cofounded, the union has over 200 members and 130 pay union dues. Its founders are organizers who were involved in Bozeman United for Racial Justice. History Advocacy Union members pressured Bozeman City Council to ban short-term rentals to increase housing supply in June 2023. The city passed strict regulations on short-term rentals that are not owner-occupied but did not pass a full ban. In June 2024, Bozeman Tenants United and Deputy Mayor Joey Morrison launched a campaign for Bozeman's city council to establish a tenant's right to counsel (TRTC). Organizers argue tenants being unable to afford lawyers leads to higher eviction rates and more homelessness, describing TRTC as "getting to the root cause rather than applying band-aids." The union held a vigil for evicted tenants in June 2025 ahead of a city council vote on TRTC. ...

Tenants Unions In The United States
A leasehold estate is an ownership of a temporary right to hold land or property in which a lessee or a tenant has rights of real property by some form of title from a lessor or landlord. Although a tenant does hold rights to real property, a leasehold estate is typically considered personal property. Leasehold is a form of land tenure or property tenure where one party buys the right to occupy land or a building for a given time. As a lease is a legal estate, leasehold estate can be bought and sold on the open market. A leasehold thus differs from a freehold or fee simple where the ownership of a property is purchased outright and after that held for an indeterminate length of time, and also differs from a tenancy where a property is let (rented) periodically such as weekly or monthly. Terminology and types of leasehold vary from country to country. Sometimes, but not always, a residential tenancy under a lease agreement is colloquially known as renting. The leaseholder can rema ...
