A beer garden (German: ''Biergarten'') is an outdoor area in which beer and food are served, typically at shared tables shaded by trees. Beer gardens originated in Bavaria, of which Munich is the capital city, in the 19th century, and remain common in Southern Germany. They are usually attached to a brewery, beer hall, Public house, pub, or restaurant. Andechs Abbey
Andechs Abbey is a Benedictine monastery, now a priory but formerly an abbey, in the municipality of Andechs, in the Starnberg (district), ''Landkreis'' of Starnberg, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Germany has 341 restaurants with a Michelin-star rating as of the 2025 guide. The ''Michelin Guides'' have been published by the French tire company Michelin since 1900. They were designed as a guide to tell drivers about eateries they recommended to visit and to subtly sponsor their tires, by encouraging drivers to use their cars more and therefore need to replace the tires as they wore out. Over time, the stars that were given out started to become more valuable. Multiple anonymous Michelin inspectors visit the restaurants several times. German Cuisine
The cuisine of Germany consists of many different local or regional cuisines, reflecting the country's federal history. Germany itself is part of the larger cultural region of Central Europe, sharing many culinary traditions with neighbouring countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic (and Slovakia as well). In Northern Europe, in Denmark more specifically, the traditional Danish cuisine had also been influenced by German cuisine in the past, hence several dishes being common between the two countries (e.g. potato salad). Horcher is a restaurant in Madrid, Spain. It moved to Madrid in 1943 having originally opened in Berlin, Germany, in 1904. It was a popular restaurant with the elite of Nazi Germany. History In Berlin During World War I Horcher served game meat from the Black Forest, food that was exempt from wartime rationing restrictions. In 1934 Hermann Göring, Heinrich Himmler, and other senior Nazis dined on crab at a celebratory meal at Horcher's following the Night of the Long Knives. Edward, Duke of Windsor, and Wallis, Duchess of Windsor dined at Horcher's on the first night of their tour of Germany in 1937. Großgaststätte Ahornblatt
The Großgaststätte Ahornblatt (, ''Great Maple Leaf Restaurant'') was a building located in the Mitte district of Berlin. Built between 1971 and 1973 as part of the new Fischerinsel residential condominium project, it accommodated a self service restaurant with 880 seats and a shopping arcade for the employees of the East German Ministry of Construction and for the workers of other nearby offices. Despite protests, the building was demolished in 2000.
