Little Tavern
Little Tavern Shops was a chain of hamburger restaurants in Baltimore, Maryland; Arlington, Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and surrounding areas. The first Little Tavern opened March 24, 1927, in Louisville, Kentucky, by Harry F. Duncan. The first Washington location was opened in October 1928 and the first in Baltimore opened its doors in June 1930. By 1937, there were 33 shops open. At the height of the chain, there were almost 50 locations. Duncan sold the chain in 1981. The chain had troubles in the 1990s and the last restaurant closed on April 29, 2008, although the Laurel location was re-opened that year as Laurel Tavern Donuts after being given the recipe for the burgers, which it still served as of 2022. The original slogan of the chain was "Buy 'em by the bag", and its signs promised "Cold Drinks * Good Coffee". Woodberry Kitchen is a New American restaurant in Baltimore's Woodberry neighborhood. In 2015, Woodberry Kitchen's founder, Spike Gjerde, won the James Beard Award for “Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic,” making him Baltimore’s only James Beard Award winner. White Coffee Pot Family Inns was a privately held Baltimore, Maryland, restaurant chain and coffeeshop that first did business in 1929 according to Polk's Baltimore City Directory. During the 1960s and 1970s, they opened a chain of fast-food restaurants White Coffee Pot, Jr. Major competitors included national chains Gino's (which sold Kentucky Fried Chicken), Denny's and Friendly's. The last White Coffee Pot restaurant closed in Brooklyn Park, Maryland, in 1993. Venice Tavern is a dive bar in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. The bar opened in 1933, when Frank Sr and Victoria DeSantis converted their basement and added an exterior staircase to access it from outside of their Conkling Street row house. The 3-story mansion above the bar was originally built in 1920 for William Schluderberg of C., a member of the William Schluderberg & Son meat packing family, and now houses a local and organic farmers market store. Mobtown Ballroom And Café
Mobtown Ballroom and Café is a ballroom and restaurant in Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded in 2011 as a swing dance venue in the Pigtown neighborhood. In 2023, it moved to Station North and added a cafe. History The business was co-founded as Mobtown Ballroom by Sarah Sullivan and Michael Seguin, along with Nina Gilkenson. It opened in September 2011. It initially occupied a deconsecrated Episcopalian church at 861 Washington Blvd. in Pigtown built in the 1870s with of space. The ballroom enlisted volunteers from the dance community to build a custom 5-layer sprung floor with more than 10,000 nails and screws. Martick's Restaurant Francais (previously known as Martick's Lower Tyson Street Tavern) is a defunct restaurant and historic building in Downtown Baltimore, Maryland. The 2,860 square-foot Federal style building was built no later than 1852. After serving a variety of uses over the decades, the structure opened as a French restaurant on July 9, 1970. Over its decades as a bar and restaurant, Martick's was known as an artists' refuge, "a tiny isle of Bohemia set in a conservative city." Looney's Pub is a Maryland-based chain of Irish sports-bars with four locations throughout the state. Looney's is known for its fresh crab options in the form of pretzels, dips and crab cakes. Haussner's Restaurant
Haussner's Restaurant was opened by William Henry Haussner in 1926 and became one of Baltimore's most famous landmarks over the next 73 years. In addition to 'old-world' style food, including Baltimore's finest crab cakes, the restaurant housed a large collection of fine art, which decorated the walls. The art had been acquired over the years by William Henry Haussner and Frances Wilke Haussner, who bought their first painting in 1939, "Venetian Flower Vendor," by Eugene de Blaas (1843-1932). Over the next 73 years, the Haussners acquired over 100 pieces, including highly important works by 19th-century European and American masters. The restaurant was closed in 1999, and the collection, which included pieces from the estates of J.P.
