RCA Corporation was a major American electronics company, which was founded in 1919 as the Radio Corporation of America. It was initially a patent pool, patent trust owned by General Electric (GE), Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Westinghouse, AT&T Corporation and United Fruit Company. A radio scanner or simply scanner is a radio receiver that can automatically tune discrete frequencies, scanning over a frequency band to find a signal until the initial transmission ceases. The term ''scanner'' generally refers to a communications receiver that is primarily intended for monitoring VHF and UHF landmobile radio systems, as opposed to, for instance, a receiver used to monitor international shortwave transmissions, although these may be classified as scanners too. More often than not, these scanners can also tune to different types of modulation as well ( AM, FM, SSB, etc.). Early scanners were slow, bulky, and expensive. Today, modern microprocessors have enabled scanners to store thousands of channels and monitor hundreds of channels per second. Olimpik
Olimpik (or sometimes named ''Olympic'', in , in ) — a series of Soviet Union, Soviet produced Superheterodyne receiver, superheterodyne portable radio receiver. The first model was developed in 1977 by the Ukrainian artist Mykola Lebid. The production was timed to coincide with the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Radio receivers were made at the Svitlovodsk plant Olymp in Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, Ukraine. Some models were also manufactured by the production association Alatau in Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, Kazakhstan. Nordmende, originally from Bremen, Germany, is a trademark owned by Technicolor SA. Nordmende was historically renowned as a major consumer electronics brand for high quality televisions and domestic appliances. The brand is now manufactured and distributed under licence in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Turkey and Italy. History The original company, Radio N. All American Five
The term All American Five (abbreviated AA5) is a colloquial name for mass-produced, superheterodyne radio receivers that used five vacuum tubes in their design. These radio sets were designed to receive amplitude modulation (AM) broadcasts in the medium wave band, and were manufactured in the United States from the mid-1930s until the early 1960s. By eliminating a power transformer, cost of the units was kept low; the same principle was later applied to television receivers. Variations in the design for lower cost, shortwave bands, better performance or special power supplies existed, although many sets used an identical set of vacuum tubes. National Panasonic Model RE-784A
The National Panasonic Model RE-784A is a vacuum tube AM/FM table radio from the post-war era (1960s) manufactured by National Panasonic (defunct, now Panasonic). The miniature tube-based circuitry follows the "All American Five" tube design, which allowed a more compact footprint of the radio; suited for sitting atop a fireplace mantle or to be mounted under a kitchen cabinet. One feature of the FM band for this radio is AFC tuning, that allowed the listener to "lock-in" an FM station without having to worry about station drifting or drops in audio volume associated with FM station tuning.
