Public transport in Adelaide, South Australia, is managed by the Government of South Australia, State Government's Department for Infrastructure & Transport, branded as Adelaide Metro. 3000 Class Railcar
The 3000 class and 3100 class are a class of diesel railcars that operate on the Railways in Adelaide, Adelaide rail network. Built by Commonwealth Engineering, Comeng and Clyde Engineering between 1987 and 1996, they entered service under the State Transport Authority (South Australia), State Transport Authority as a replacement for the South Australian Railways Redhen railcar, Redhen railcars, before later being operated by TransAdelaide and Adelaide Metro. Trains are typically coupled as multiple units, though the 3000 class are also able to run as single units when needed. In total, 70 railcars were built and are expected to be retired between 2030 and 2032. The fleet underwent 3 major refurbishments. Belair, South Australia
Belair is a suburb in the south eastern foothills of Adelaide, South Australia at the base of the Mount Lofty Ranges. Name Before European settlement, the Kaurna people called the area of modern-day Belair "piraldi". One early European name for the area was Sleep's Hill, named after Samuel Sleep, a shepherd who came to South Australia in the 1830s. The origin of the modern name "Belair" is uncertain. Gustav Ludewigs, who subdivided the area, may have named the suburb after Bel Air, Martinique, being his wife Maria's birthplace. Another theory is that it was named in 1849 after Eugene Bellairs, a Government surveyor who lived in the area. The Grange line is a suburban branch line in Adelaide, South Australia. It is 13.0 kilometres long. History In September 1882, a line was opened from Woodville to Grange, built by the Grange Railway and Investment Company. Unlike the Adelaide to Port Adelaide route, which was built and operated by the South Australian Government, the Grange line was a private venture, constructed to tap into potential development in the area between Woodville and the coast. The new line ran into a bay platform at Woodville. Although there was a connection to the main line, it was not possible for Grange line trains to conveniently continue to Adelaide. Adelaide Metro A-City 4000 Class
The Adelaide Metro 4000 class, also referred to as A-City trains, are electric multiple unit trains built by Bombardier Transportation (later Alstom) in Dandenong, Victoria for the electrified Adelaide rail network. They are the only class of operational electric trains in South Australia, running services on the Gawler, Seaford and Flinders lines. History In the 2008/09 State Budget, it was announced that five out of six of Adelaide's railway lines were to be electrified commencing with the Noarlunga and Gawler lines. This was to have resulted in 58 of the 3000/3100 class railcars being converted to electric operation with the remaining 12 to be retained as diesels for operation on the Belair line. Gawler Railway Line
The Gawler line, also known as the Gawler Central line, is a suburban commuter railway line in the city of Adelaide, South Australia. The Gawler Line is the most frequent and heavily patronised line in the Adelaide rail network. It is also the only line to have no other interchange with another line except Adelaide. History The line was opened in 1857 from Adelaide to Gawler. It was extended to Kapunda in 1860. Branches were later built from Gawler to termini in Angaston, Truro, Morgan, Robertstown, Peterborough, Spalding and Gladstone. Between Adelaide and Salisbury, the two broad gauge lines are paralleled by one standard gauge line on the Adelaide to Port Augusta line. The Flinders line is a suburban commuter line in Adelaide, South Australia, that branches off the Seaford line at Mitchell Park, and ends opposite Science Park, close to the Flinders University and the Flinders Medical Centre. The line is single track for most of its length, from Celtic Avenue, near Mitchell Park station, to its terminus.
