List Of Protoplanetary Nebulae
This is a list of protoplanetary nebulae. These objects represent the final stage before a planetary nebula. During this stage, the red giant star begins to slowly expel its outermost layers of material. A protoplanetary nebula usually glows with the light from its parent star. This stage is usually brief, typically lasting no more than a few thousand years. IRAS 22036+5306
IRAS 22036+5306, also known as 2MASS J22053028+5321327, is a protoplanetary nebula located in the constellation Cepheus at approximately ~6,500 light-years from Earth. The nebula was created by the shedding of most of the material in the outer shell of an aging star. The gas cloud formed is heated by the still burning hot core of the star. A torus formed mainly of ejected material was formed around the star. Two jets of material are ejected from the poles of the dying star, piercing the dusty curtain. These jets eject large amounts of material weighing tens of thousands of times the mass of Earth at speeds reaching . The ejected dust now scatters the light from the central star and reflects it, among other things, towards the Earth. However, soon the central star will reach the stage of a very hot white dwarf, whose intense ultraviolet radiation will ionize the gas, causing it to glow with multi-colored light. Then, IRAS 22036+5306 will transform into a formal planetary neb ...

M2-9
Minkowski 2-9, abbreviated M2-9 (also known as Minkowski's Butterfly, Twin Jet Nebula, the Wings of a Butterfly Nebula, or just Butterfly Nebula) is a planetary nebula that was discovered by Rudolph Minkowski in 1947. It is located about 2,100 light-years away from Earth in the direction of the constellation Ophiuchus. This bipolar nebula takes the peculiar form of twin lobes of material that emanate from a central star. Astronomers have dubbed this object as the ''Twin Jet Nebula'' because of the jets believed to cause the shape of the lobes. Its form also resembles the wings of a butterfly. The nebula was imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope in the 1990s. The primary component of the central binary is the hot core of a star that reached the end of its main-sequence life cycle, ejected most of its outer layers and became a red giant, and is now contracting into a white dwarf. It is believed to have been a sun-like star early in its life. The second, smaller star of the b ...

M2-9 Minkowski's Butterfly
M, or m, is the thirteenth letter in the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. Its name in English is ''em'' (pronounced ), plural ''ems''. History The letter M is derived from the Phoenician Mem, via the Greek Mu (Μ, μ). Semitic Mem is most likely derived from a " Proto-Sinaitic" (Bronze Age) adoption of the "water" ideogram in Egyptian writing. The Egyptian sign had the acrophonic value , from the Egyptian word for "water", ''nt''; the adoption as the Semitic letter for was presumably also on acrophonic grounds, from the Semitic word for "water", '' *mā(y)-''. Use in writing systems The letter represents the bilabial nasal consonant sound in the orthography of Latin as well as in that of many modern languages, and also in the International Phonetic Alphabet. In English, the Oxford English Dictionary (first edition) says that is sometimes a vowel, in words like ''spa ...

IRAS 19024+0044
IRAS 19024+0044, also known informally as the Starfish Nebula, is a large protoplanetary nebula that is located in the constellation Aquila at a distance of approximately 11,000 light-years from the Milky Way. The central star of the nebula is approaching the final stage of its evolution. It is surrounded by a cloud of gas and dust resembling a starfish. The nebula is characterized by five blue bubbles that extend from the central star, giving the nebula an asymmetric shape. Its blue color comes from the blue component of the star's spectrum, which is more easily scattered by the nebula's gas and dust than the red and orange colors, which remain relatively intact. The nebula was also directly imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope, and was selected as ESA/HUBBLE's Picture of the Week starting September 5, 2011. M1-92
M1-92 (Minkowski 92), also known as Minkowski’s Footprint or the Footprint Nebula, is a bipolar protoplanetary nebula in the constellation of Cygnus. It is a type of reflection nebula, visible only by light reflected from the central star. The central star is not yet a white dwarf but is quickly becoming one. In a few thousand years the star will be hot enough to emit vast quantities of ultraviolet radiation that will ionize the nebula surrounding it, making it a fully fledged planetary nebula. M1-92 was discovered by Rudolph Minkowski in 1946. It was imaged by the Very Large Array (VLA) in 1983 and by Hubble Space Telescope in 1996. The object is 8,000 light-years away from Earth, and has a radial velocity of -7.086 kilometers (-4.4 miles) a second. Its axis is tilted 35 degrees from our line of sight. It is 11 by 6 arcseconds in angular size. It is 0.42 light-years in diameter and shines at 10,000 solar luminosities. The most obvious feature of M1-92 is the two onion-shap ...

LL Pegasi
LL Pegasi (AFGL 3068) is a Mira variable star surrounded by a pinwheel-shaped nebula, IRAS 23166+1655, thought to be a preplanetary nebula. It is a binary system that includes an extreme carbon star. The pair is hidden by the dust cloud ejected from the carbon star and is only visible in infrared light. Variability LL Pegasi is obscured at visual wavelengths, but is strongly variable in brightness at infrared wavelengths. It is classified as a Mira variable and has a period of about 696 days. Nebula The nebula displays an unusual Archimedean spiral shape. The shape is thought to be formed through the interaction between the stellar companion and the carbon star, as has been seen in other binary systems, although not with such a precise geometric form. The distance between the spiral arms and their rate of expansion is consistent with estimates of the pair's 810 year orbital period based on their apparent angular separation.
