List Of Proper Names Of Exoplanets
Proper names for planets outside of the Solar System – known as exoplanets – are chosen by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) through public naming contests known as NameExoWorlds. Naming The IAU's names for exoplanets – and on most occasions their Planet-hosting stars, host stars – are chosen by the Executive Committee Working Group (ECWG) on Public Naming of Planets and Planetary Satellites, a group working parallel with the IAU Working Group on Star Names, Working Group on Star Names (WGSN). List of proper names of stars, Proper names of stars chosen by the ECWG are explicitly recognised by the WGSN. The ECWG's rules for naming exoplanets are identical to those adopted by the Minor Planet Center for minor planets. Arcas
In Greek mythology, Arcas (; Ancient Greek: Ἀρκάς) was a hunter who became king of Arcadia. He was remembered for having taught people the arts of weaving and baking bread and for spreading agriculture to Arcadia. Family Arcas was the son of Zeus and Callisto. In other accounts, his birth mother was called Megisto, daughter of Ceteus, son of Lycaon, or else Themisto, daughter of Inachus. Arcas was married to either Laodamia ( Leaneira), daughter of Amyclas of Sparta; Meganeira, daughter of Crocon; the nymph Chrysopeleia; or the Dryad Erato. He also left a number of children, including the sons Azan, Apheidas, Elatus, and Triphylus, an illegitimate son Autolaus and at least two daughters, Hyperippe and Diomeneia. 18 Delphini, also named Musica , is a single star in the constellation of Delphinus of the low northern hemisphere. It has a Sun-like golden hue and is faintly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 5.506. The star is located at a distance of approximately 245 light-years from the Sun based on parallax, and it is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +4 km/s. An object believed to be an extrasolar planet (designated 18 Delphini b or Arion) orbits the star. Nomenclature 18 Delphini is the star's Flamsteed designation, abbreviated 18 Del. Following its discovery the planet was designated 18 Delphini b. Arion (; ) was a kitharode in ancient Greece, a Dionysiac poet credited with inventing the dithyramb. The islanders of Lesbos claimed him as their native son, but Arion found a patron in Periander, tyrant of Corinth. Although notable for his musical inventions, Arion is chiefly remembered for the fantastic myth of his kidnapping by pirates and miraculous rescue by dolphins, a folktale motif. Origins Arion was a native of Methymna in Lesbos, and, according to some mythological accounts, a son of Cyclon or of Poseidon and the nymph Oncaea. All traditions about him agree in describing him as a contemporary and friend of Periander, tyrant of Corinth. The effective temperature of a body such as a star or planet is the temperature of a black body that would emit the same total amount of electromagnetic radiation. Effective temperature is often used as an estimate of a body's surface temperature when the body's emissivity curve (as a function of wavelength) is not known.
