The politics of South Sudan concern the system of government in the Republic of South Sudan, a country in East Africa, and the people, organizations, and events involved in it. As a region, the Republic of South Sudan gained autonomy in 2005 with former rebel leader Dr. John Garang becoming the President of New Sudan and the Vice President of Sudan. The United Democratic Front (Juba Arabic: جبهة الديمقراطية المتحدة ''Jabhet Al-Dimoqratiyet Al-Mutahedat'') is a political party in South Sudan. It is led by Peter Abdurahman Sule. The party was previously represented in the Interim National Assembly of Sudan and the South Sudan Legislative Assembly, where it held four seats. The United Democratic Front (UDF) party was founded in 2002 by Peter Abdulrahman Sule. The Communist Party of South Sudan (, ''Hizb Al-Shuyu'i Janub Al-Sudan'') is a communist party in South Sudan. It was formed in June 2011, as the southern branches of the Sudanese Communist Party separated themselves from their mother party ahead of South Sudanese independence.
