Birmingham Sound Reproducers (BSR) was a 20th-century British manufacturer of record player turntables, reel-to-reel tape recorder mechanisms and, for a time, housewares. History Early years Daniel McLean McDonald (1905–1991) founded Birmingham Sound Reproducers as a private company in 1932 in the West Midlands (region), West Midlands of England. Dual (brand)
Dual is a brand name of audio and video electronics. History In 1907, brothers Christian and Joseph Steidinger began manufacturing clockwork and gramophone parts in the Black Forest town of St. Georgen. In 1927, Gebrüder Steidinger (Steidinger Bros.) created the Dual-Motor, consisting of a spring loaded clock work and an electric motor. It proved successful and the company adopted the name Dual in 1935. Dual began producing turntables under that name the same year. After World War II, Dual became the biggest manufacturer of turntables in Europe, with more than 3,000 employees working in several factories. Denon
is a Japanese electronics company dealing with audio equipment. The Denon brand came from a merger of Denki Onkyo (not to be confused with the other Onkyo) and others in 1939. It originally started as Nippon Chikuonki Shoukai in 1910 by Frederick Whitney Horn, an American entrepreneur. Denon produced the first cylinder audio media in Japan and players to play them. Dansette was a British brand of record players, radiograms, tape recorders, and radio sets, manufactured by the London firm of J & A Margolin Ltd. Record player The first Dansette record player was manufactured in 1952, by the London firm of J & A Margolin Ltd, and at least one million were sold in the 1950s and 1960s. Collaro
Collaro was the name of a major early British manufacturer of gramophones, record players, and tape decks, throughout the early years of sound reproduction. Collaro Ltd was founded in 1920 by Christopher Collaro at 23 Garway Road, London, and became a private company in 1924. The company moved to the Culmore Works, Culmore Road, Peckham, London in 1926. During World War II the company was engaged in munitions work and temporarily relocated to the Valley Works, Langley Mill, Derbyshire when its London factory was bombed.
