Cornelis Van Aarsens
Cornelis van Aerssen (also ''Aerssen'', ''Aersen'', ''Aarsens'') (1545 - 22 March 1627) was a statesman in Holland. Van Aerssen was born in Antwerp. From 1611 he was ''Heer van Spijk'' (Lord of Spijk, sometimes spelt Spyck) and was the father of Frans van Aarsens. For many years, he was ''registrat'' to the States-General. He died in The Hague. He was almost certainly the son of an Antwerp courtier, who was favoured by the court at Brussels. Von Aerssen himself in 1574 entered office as a city secretary of Brussels. In the following year he was appointed the pensioner of the city. Although in religious matters he was known as a tolerant man, he was against a reconciliation with Philip II of Spain. Denis Calvaert
Denis Calvaert (; around 154016 April 1619) was an Antwerp-born Flemish painter who spent most of his life in Italy, where he was known as Dionisio Fiammingo () or simply Il Fiammingo ("the Fleming"). Calvaert was a profound student of architecture, anatomy, and history. His works are characterized by their advanced composition and colouring. Calvaert is well known for his drawings and small copper paintings. Some of his best known works include his rendition of The Resurrection of Christ and Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness. Frédéric Perrenot
Frédéric Perrenot (1536–1600), lord of Champagney, baron of Renaix, was a soldier and diplomat in Habsburg service. Life Perrenot was born in Barcelona on 3 April 1536, the fifth and youngest son of Nicole Bonvalot and Nicolas Perrenot de Granvelle, a close adviser to Charles V. His studies at the University of Padua were cut short by his father's death in 1550. He served at the Battle of Renty (1554). Emanuel Van Meteren
Emanuel van Meteren or Meteeren (1535 – 11 April 1612) was a Flemings, Flemish historian and Consul for "the Traders of the Low Countries" in London. He was born in Antwerp, the son of Sir Jacobus van Meteren, Dutch financier and publisher of early English language, English versions of the Bible, and Ottilia Ortellius, of the famous Ortellius family of mapmakers, and nephew of the cartographer Abraham Ortelius. Medalist
A medalist (or medallist) is an artist who designs medals, plaquettes, badges, metal medallions, coins and similar small works in relief in metal. Historically, medalists were typically also involved in producing their designs, and were usually either sculptors or goldsmiths by background. In modern times, medalists are mostly primarily sculptors of larger works, but in the past the number of medals and coins produced were sufficient to support specialists who spent most of their career producing them. Jacques Jonghelinck
Jacques Jonghelinck (Antwerp, 21 October 1530 - 1606) was a Flemish sculptor and medallist working in Brussels in the Mannerist style common to the Catholic courts of Western Europe. Career He moved from Antwerp to set up a workshop in Brussels in 1562 and was appointed court sculptor the following year. In Brussels, he specialized in funeral monuments for an aristocratic clientele and was also a successful merchant, and financier. He belonged to the immediate entourage of the diplomat Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle, President of the Council of State from 1556 to 1564. He collaborated as sculptor and bronze-founder with the sculptor Joos Aerts in the gilt-bronze and black marble memorial of Charles the Bold (died 1477) in the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk ("Church of Our Lady") (Bruges), completed in 1563.
