A palace is a grand residence, especially a royal residence, or the home of a head of state or some other high-ranking dignitary, such as a bishop or archbishop. The word is derived from the Latin name palātium, for Palatine Hill in Rome which housed the Imperial residences. Most European languages have a version of the term (''palais'', ''palazzo'', ''palacio'', etc.), and many use it for a wider range of buildings than English. In many parts of Europe, the equivalent term is also applied to large private houses in cities, especially of the aristocracy; often the term for a large country house is different. White Palace (Marghazar)
The White Palace of Marghazar was built in 1940 by the first king of Swat, Miangul Abdul Wadud (Badshah Sahib) in the small town of Marghazar situated at about 13 kilometers away from Saidu Sharif. The name was given to the palace as it was built of white marble. The name has been changed 3 times first it was named Swati Palace and then Motti Palace and then White Palace. The palace now serves as a hotel. The White Palace at Marghazar was the summer residence of the Wali of Swat, Miangul Jehanzeb. Located at 7,136 feet above sea level on Marghazar Hill, it was later converted into a tourist resort. History The greenery of the gorgeous landscape persuaded the then King of Swat, Miangul Abdul Wadud (Badshah Sahib) in 1935 to build a summer resort here. Sialkot Fort
Sialkot Fort is an ancient fort in ruins in the Sialkot district of Pakistan. According to Punjabi folklore, it was built by Raja Sálbán around the 2nd century CE. The fort was rebuilt by Shahab ud-Din Ghori after its capture from Khusrau Malik, the last Ghaznavid ruler. The Sialkot Fort was given to the Janjua tribes by Sultan Firuz Shah Tughluq who accepted their suzerainty in that region around late 14th century CE. During the Akbar era, Sialkot's ''pargana'' territory was placed in the ''jagir'' custodianship of Raja Man Singh, who would repair the city's fort, and sought to increase its population and develop its economy. During the reign of Jahangir, the post was given to Safdar Khan, who rebuilt the city's fort, and oversaw a further increase in Sialkot's prosperity. Sheesh Mahal (Lahore Fort)
The Sheesh Mahal ( ur, ; '' "The Palace of Mirrors"'') is a palace located within the Shah Burj block in northern-western corner of Lahore Fort. It was constructed under the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631–32, with some additions later under Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The ornate white marble pavilion is inlaid with pietra dura and complex mirror-work of the finest quality. The hall was reserved for personal use by the imperial family and close aides. Omar Hayat Mahal
Omar Hayat Mahal (), also spelt Umer Hayat Mahal, and alternatively known as Gulzar Manzil, is an early 20th-century wooden haveli mansion in Chiniot, Pakistan. The mansion was started in 1923, and was completed by 1935. The mansion, originally 5-storeys tall, was built by Sheikh Omar Hayat - a Chinioti businessman who had made his fortune in Calcutta. The edifice displays outstanding examples of Chiniot's local woodworking style, and has been described as an "ornament" of a building on account of its lavishly decorated interior. History Sheikh Omar migrated from Chiniot to Calcutta in the late 19th century after being ostracised for marrying against his family's will. Large numbers of Chiniot's Sheikh tribe had settled in Calcutta during the British era. Noor Mahal
The Noor Mahal ( ur, ) is a Pakistan Army-owned palace in Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan. It was built in 1872 like an Italian chateau on neoclassical lines, at a time when modernism had set in. It belonged to the Nawabs of Bahawalpur princely state, during British Raj. History There are various stories regarding its construction. According to the sources Nawab Sir Sadiq Abbasi built the Palace for himself. Noor Mehal is one of the hidden gems of Bahawalpur, due to the lack of publicity. The palace is open to public. It is currently in the possession of the Pakistan Army and is used as a state guest house for holding state durbars and meetings with foreign delegations. Mohatta Palace
The Mohatta Palace ( ur, ) is a museum located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Designed by ''Muhammad komail Hussain'', the palace was built in 1927 in the posh seaside locale of Clifton as the summer home of Shivratan Mohatta, a Hindu Marwari businessman from what is now the modern-day Indian state of Rajasthan. The palace was built in the tradition of stone palaces of Rajasthan, using pink Jodhpur stone in combination with the local yellow stone from nearby Gizri.
