This is a list of newspapers published in Taiwan. After ''Apple Daily'' () ceased print publication in 2021, there are currently three major daily newspapers: the ''Liberty Times'' (自由時報), ''United Daily News'' (聯合報), and ''China Times'' (中國時報). In addition, there are two major business-focused, financial newspapers: the '' Commercial Times'' (工商時報) and ''Economic Daily News'' (經濟日報). After competitors ''Taiwan News'' ceased print publication in 2010 and ''The China Post'' in 2015, ''Taipei Times'' (英文台北時報) remains the only major English-language newspaper in Taiwan. The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China (MND; ) is the ministry of the Republic of China (Taiwan) responsible for all defense and military affairs of Taiwan. ''Matsu Daily'' () is a newspaper owned by the government of the Lienchiang County, Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). It was founded as ''Tengpu Daily'' (), a newspaper published to the military on Tengpu Island, to commemorate the victory of Tengpu Battle. Following the later retreat to Matsu, the newspaper continued to be published. ''Matsu Daily'' started to be published on 3 September 1957. ''Kinmen Daily News'' (KMDN; ) is a newspaper owned by Kinmen County Government in Kinmen County (Quemoy), Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). History The predecessor of the Kinmen Daily News was ''Chunghwa Cheng Chi Pao'' (, Zhōnghuá-zhèngqìbào) from Nancheng, Jiangxi, which retreated to Quemoy following the Chinese civil war. ''Kinmen Daily News'' started publishing on October 31, 1965. From November 7, 1992 onwards, the operation of two newspapers were split. ''Chunghwa Cheng Chi Pao'' was changed into a weekly paper, and is distributed to the military on Quemoy.
