Ajo Copper News
The ''Ajo Copper News'' is a weekly community newspaper serving western Pima County, Arizona. It has been published since 1916 in Ajo, Arizona. History The first issue of the Ajo Copper News bore a dateline of April 29, 1916. In its history, the newspaper has had a handful of publishers and editors, moved a few times, come back from a disastrous fire, and survived some tough times. Renwick White, encouraged by John Campbell Greenway and Mike Curley, founded the Ajo Copper News in March 1916 and published the first official issue in April. The first office was located in Clarkston and later was moved to Ajo. Most of the newspaper files were destroyed when the newspaper office and a bakery burned down in 1935. A new building was built and the Ajo Copper News was published again after a hiatus of about three months. Ahwatukee Foothills (also Ahwatukee) is an urban village of Phoenix. Ahwatukee is the southernmost part of Phoenix and is considered part of the East Valley region of the Phoenix metropolitan area. In 2022, ''Niche'' rated Ahwatukee "#1 in Best Neighborhoods to Live in Phoenix". History Prior to the area's development, the name "Ahwatukee" referred to a now-demolished house which was in an area near Sequoia Trails and Appaloosa Drive, west of the Warner-Elliot Loop. The name is said to derive from a Crow word meaning "house of dreams", however Ahwatukee is not a Crow word. Beginnings At least two major thoroughfares in today's Ahwatukee are named after people who claimed lands in the area, in the decades after the signing of the Homestead Act in 1862. The ''Yuma Sun'' is a newspaper in Yuma, Arizona, United States. History Though not founded until 1896, the Yuma Sun can trace its history back to the ''Arizona Sentinel'', the first newspaper in what is now the Yuma area. The Yuma Sun would eventually be formed by a merger of the Arizona Sentinel and the Yuma Sun's predecessor, the ''Yuma Morning Sun''. The Arizona Sentinel The Sentinel was founded in 1871 by David A. Gordon and C. L. Minor when Yuma was still known as Arizona City. The paper, originally called the ''Arizona Free Press'', was renamed the ''Arizona Sentinel'' after one year of publication. Lake Havasu City (, ) is a city in Mohave County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 57,144, up from 52,527 in 2010. It is served by Lake Havasu City Airport. History The community first started during World War II as Site Six, an Army Air Corps rest camp on the shores of Lake Havasu. The ''Herald Review'' is a newspaper printed in Sierra Vista, Arizona, United States. Most of its circulation goes to Sierra Vista, Huachuca City, Hereford, Palominas, and Fort Huachuca. It is also circulated in Bisbee. History Ky Richards Jr. and his wife, Lois Richards, originally from Hawaii, started printing the ''Huachuca Herald'' on Fridays starting October 7, 1955. They put out the first editions on a typewriter, composing stories on their kitchen table. On October 8, 1967, the couple started printing the paper twice a week.
