Chhota Katra
Choto Katra (; ''Small Katra'') is one of two Katras built during Mughal's regime in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was constructed in 1663 by Subahdar Shaista Khan. It is on Hakim Habibur Rahman lane on the bank of the Buriganga River. It was built to accommodate officials and Shaista Khan's expanding family. Chhota Katra is slightly smaller than Bara Katra, but similar in plan and about 185 metres east of it. Origin Katara is a form of cellular dormitory built around an oblong courtyard; the form originated in Persia, and like many other things Persian and middle-Asian that the Mughals introduced in this subcontinent, this was copied in Northern India, the home of some of the rulers, members of the Royal Court and the nobility. However, the term may have been derived from Arabic word ''Katara'' which meant colonnaded building, or could be a corrupt French word used for a residential quarter. Ramna () is a Thanas of Bangladesh, thana (precinct) in central Dhaka and a historic colonial neighbourhood. Once the site of Mughal Empire, Mughal gardens, it developed into an institutional area during British Raj, British rule in the late 19th century. It became a focal point for Dhaka's modernisation in the 1960s. It was the scene of many tumultuous events that ushered the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. Kakrail Mosque, Dhaka
Kakrail () is a neighbourhood in Dhaka. It is under Ramna Thana and falls under the jurisdiction of Dhaka South City Corporation. Over time, Kakrail has grown into a mostly residential area, with apartment plots and schools, but subsequently, several NGOs and government offices have been set up there. Etymology Historian Muntassir Mamoon theorized that Kakrail may be named after a British commissioner to Dacca, Cockerell. The name "Kakrail" could be a Bengali corruption of his name. History As Dhaka expanded after the 1947 Partition of Bengal, Kakrail became a residential colony. A mosque in the area, the Kakrail Mosque, became the ''markaz'' (headquarters) of the Tablighi Jamaat in East Bengal. Their '' Bishwa Ijtema'' was held there annually starting in 1954. The Kakrail Mosque, also known as the Malwali Mosque () or as the Kakrail Markaz (), is a Tabligh Jamat mosque in the Kakrail neighbourhood of Ramna, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Located near Ramna Park, it is the centre of the Tabligh Jamat in Bangladesh. Leadership The mosque is being managed by two disputed groups of Tablighi Jaamat. Followers of Aalami Sura control the markaz for 28 days and the followers of Nizamuddin (mainstream Tablighi Jamaat) for only 14 days. There is no fighting between two jamat. History There is disagreement as to when and by whom the mosque was first built. However, it is seemingly the case that a previous mosque existed in the premises prior to Tablighi administration.
