Mahottari District ( ne, महोत्तरी जिल्ला,), a part of Madhesh Province, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. Jaleshwar Mahadev Temple
Jaleshwar Mahadev Temple (Nepali: जलेश्वर महादेव मन्दिर) is a hindu temple of Shiva situated at Mahottari district, Nepal. Pilgrims visit this temple on Maha Shivaratri and Vasant Panchami. The city of Jaleshwar where this temple is located is named after this temple. Records indicates that the temple was in existence from the time of King Janak. It is believed that during the marriage between Rama and Sita, soils were taken from this temple. A copper inscription in the temple indicates that to administer the temple, in , king Girvan Yuddha Bikram Shah provided 275 bighas of land. The temple is constructed with Gumbaja architecture. In the middle of the main temple, there is a square Shiva Linga which lies below water. There is a pond near the temple. Nepal's cultural heritage includes archaeological sites, temples, monasteries, shrines, tombs, buildings, residences, monuments, and places of worship. The Ancient Monument Protection Act 1956 (Prachin Smarak Samrakshan Ain 2013 BS) has defined monuments as “Any temple, monument, house, Devalaya, Shivalaya, Muth, monastery, vihar, stupa etc that is older than 100 years and has historical significance is monument.” The Ancient Monument Protection Act 1956 and Ancient Monument Protection Rules 1990 have provisioned the Department of Archaeology which is the authorized legal entity to protect such monuments. The department has published books in series comprising information about classified protected archaeological sites and monuments of Nepal which is the authentic information according to the law.
