Before amalgamation in 1994, the Dandenong area was covered by the City of Dandenong and the City of Springvale (formerly known as the Shire of Dandenong). City Of Greater Dandenong
The City of Greater Dandenong is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne. It has an area of just under 130 square kilometres (50 sq mi) and 166,094 residents in 2018. 29% of its land area forms part of the South East Green Wedge. It was formed in 1994 by the merger of parts of the former City of Dandenong and City of Springvale. The Bunurong/Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri peoples are the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which Greater Dandenong is now located. Clare Ellen O'Neil (born 12 September 1980) is an Australian politician who is the Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness since July 2024, Minister for Cities since May 2025 and was the Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Cyber Security from June 2022 to July 2024. She is a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2013, representing the Victorian seat of Hotham. Eden Foster (born 1981) is an Australian politician who has served in the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Mulgrave since 2023. Meng Heang Tak () is an Australian politician and former lawyer. He has been a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2018, representing the seat of Clarinda. Heang Tak was born in Cambodia and came to Australia at sixteen years old. Independent Liberal is a description used in Australian politics, often to designate a politician who is a Liberal Party member but not endorsed by the party at elections, or if sitting in parliament, not a member of the Liberal party room.
