Donte's
''Donte's'' was a jazz club and diner and cocktail bar at 4269 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, to the north of Universal Studios. One of the West Coast's best known jazz clubs in the 1970s and 1980s, it opened in 1966 and closed in 1988. History Donte's was established in 1966. Early performers included Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie, Mercer Ellington and Count Basie, and Buddy Rich, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Gerald Wilson, Don Piestrup, Don Menza and Bill Holman all brought their bands to the club. Jazz guitarists Joe Pass and Larry Carlton became regular performers. Pass would play on Monday evenings, which was "Guitar Night", organized by studio guitarist Jack Marshall. Art Pepper would perform on New Year's Eve. Clint Eastwood and Frank Sinatra frequently visited the club. Guitarist Lenny Breau was giving weekly seminars at the club before his death in 1984. Lincoln Theater (Los Angeles)
The Lincoln Theater is a historic theater in South Los Angeles, California. The Moorish Revival building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. Sometimes referred to as the "West Coast Apollo", the Lincoln Theater was one of the most significant establishments along the Central Avenue Corridor; this became the cultural and business hub of the African-American community in Los Angeles from the 1920s to the 1950s. Hermosa Beach (, Spanish for "Beautiful") is a beachfront city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Its population was 19,728 at the 2020 U.S. Census. The Jazz Bakery is a not-for-profit arts presenter in Los Angeles that has showcased many of the world's most acclaimed jazz artists since it was founded by jazz vocalist Ruth Price in 1992. History Price, President & Artistic Director of the Jazz Bakery, is a jazz singer from Philadelphia who toured with bassist/composer Charles Mingus and recorded with drummer Shelly Manne and guitarist Johnny Smith. She created the Jazz Bakery after booking several clubs and restaurants around Los Angeles. The Haig
The Haig Dinners was a jazz club located at 638 South Kenmore Avenue in the Wilshire Distric, Los Angeles, California. Along with the Tiffany Club it was one of Los Angeles's premier jazz venues in the 1950s and strongly associated with West Coast jazz. History Author James Lincoln Collier describes the club as "the best-known Los Angeles jazz club of the day". It was located across from the Ambassador Hotel, which housed the famous supper club, The Cocoanut Grove.
