Carcar, officially the City of Carcar (; ), is a component city in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 136,453 people. History Before Spanish colonization,Carcar was known as "Kabkad" and it was part of area called "Sialo" which was ruled by the Sri Lumay (Rajahmura Lumaya), who had established his kingdom in Cebu Island and ruled from the Singhapala (present day Mabolo in north part of Cebu City). Medellin, Cebu
Medellin, officially the Municipality of Medellin (; ), is a municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 59,605 people. History The name Medellin is of Spanish origin and refers to the village with the same name in the Badajoz province of Extremadura in Spain. Medellin became a municipality by royal decree of Queen Isabel II of Spain on September 9, 1881. Medellin was formerly part of Daanbantayan. As a town, it started with only 3 barangays, namely; Kawit and Buenavista on the west coast, and Tindog on the east coast. Kawit, being the biggest and most progressive barangay at that time, became the first seat of government. Due to its deep shore water, the area was prone to pirates. Cordova, Cebu
Cordova, officially the Municipality of Cordova (; ), is a municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 70,595 people. Also spelled Cordoba, most of the municipality lies on separate islands off the southern coast of Mactan Island. It is connected by two bridges to the main island of Mactan, which itself is connected to mainland Cebu by the two bridges between Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City. The Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway, opened in 2022, connects it directly to mainland Cebu in Cebu City. Mactan
Mactan is a densely populated island located a few kilometers (~1 mile) east of Cebu Island in the Philippines. The island is part of Cebu province and it is divided into the city of Lapu-Lapu and the municipality of Cordova. The island is separated from Cebu by the Mactan Channel which is presently crossed by three bridges: the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the Mactan–Mandaue Bridge, and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge. Carnaza Island
Carnaza is a barangay in the Philippines located on the island of the same name. The turtle-shaped island is located north of Malapascua Island which itself is north of mainland Cebu. Carnaza is then the northernmost offshore island and barangay of the municipality of Daanbantayan. The island is bordered on all sides by the Visayan Sea. Topography The island's topography includes coastal plains, mangrove swamps, lagoons and semi-rounded hills. Its coastal plain constitutes about 9.7% while semi-rounded hills constitute the biggest portion of the island covering about 14.4% of the total area. Bogo, Cebu
Bogo , officially the City of Bogo (; ; ), is a component city in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 88,867 people. The plebiscite for the cityhood of Bogo was held on June 16, 2007, in which 97.82% of voters of Bogo voted for cityhood. Former representative Clavel Asas-Martinez announced that the cityhood of Bogo has been ratified. It became the sixth component city of Cebu province. Camotes Sea
The Camotes Sea is a small sea within the Philippine archipelago, situated between the Central Visayan and the Eastern Visayan regions. It separates Cebu from Leyte hence is bordered by Cebu to the west, Leyte to the east and north, and Bohol to the south. At its center are the Camotes Islands, but it also contains Mactan Island, Olango Island, Lapinig Island (in Bohol), and various other small islets. Northwards, the sea is connected to the Visayan Sea. Southwards, it is connected to the Bohol Sea (also called the ''Mindanao Sea'') in two ways: to the southwest by the Cebu Strait (and its three channels, the Mactan, the Olango, and the Hilutangan), and to the southeast by the Canigao Channel. Tulang Island
San Francisco, officially the Municipality of San Francisco (; ), is a municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 59,236 people. History Protohistory Carl Guthe, director of the University of Michigan Anthropological Museum, during his 1923–25 collecting trip and explorations of archaeological sites in the Philippines, conducted an archeological dig in a cave site on Tulang. Located on the southeastern coast of the island, the cave measures about . Guthe reported it to contain bone fragments and teeth of about 60 individuals. Poro Island
Poro Island (Filipino: Pulo ng Poro) is an island in the province of Cebu, located east of Cebu Island and west of Leyte Island. Two municipalities, Poro and Tudela, are located on Poro Island. It is one of the four Camotes Islands along with Pacijan Island, Ponson Island, and Tulang Island. The island is one of the early Pacific contact sites between the East and the West. Geography Bukilat Cave The island hosts various caves. One example is the Bukilat Cave which is a large natural cavern in the southeastern part of the island. Because of naturally formed piercings in its canopy, the interior is well illuminated. There are many stalactite and stalagmite formations in the cave. Ponson Island
Pilar, officially the Municipality of Pilar (; ), is a municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 12,506 people. The municipality is contiguous with Ponson Island, one of the four Camotes Islands in the Camotes Sea (along with Pacijan Island, Poro Island, and Tulang Island). The island is about long and wide.
