The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a public research university in Pokfulam, Hong Kong. It was founded in 1887 as the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese by the London Missionary Society and formally established as the University of Hong Kong in 1911. It is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong. The university was established and proposed by Governor Sir Frederick Lugard in an effort to compete with the other Great Powers opening universities in China. The university's governance consists of three bodies: the Court, the Council, and the Senate. These three bodies all have their own separate roles. The Court acts as the overseeing and legislative body of the university, the Council acts as governing body of the University, and the Senate as the principal academic authority of the university. Margaret Ng
Margaret Ng Ngoi-yee (; born 25 January 1948) is a politician, barrister, writer and columnist in Hong Kong. She was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong from 1995 to 2012. Biography Before entering the legal profession, Margaret Ng worked at the University of Hong Kong and Chase Manhattan Bank (now JP Morgan Chase). She also held senior positions in journalism, serving as publisher and deputy editor-in-chief of the '' Ming Pao'' newspaper; and as a columnist for ''South China Morning Post''. Besides being a lawyer and journalist, Ng is also an accomplished expert in the fields of philosophy and literature. Mirror (stylised in all caps) is a Hong Kong boy group formed through ViuTV's reality talent show '' Good Night Show - King Maker'' in 2018. Patrick Yu Shuk Siu (; August 22, 1922 – January 12, 2019) was a celebrated trial and appellate lawyer in Hong Kong. Biography Born into an intellectual Chinese family (father Yu Wa was an educator) in Hong Kong, with ancestry from Taishan, Guangdong, Yu was educated at home for many years before attending Wah Yan College Hong Kong, a prominent Jesuit high school in Hong Kong. In 1938, at the age of sixteen, he was admitted to the University of Hong Kong, where he studied in the arts program as a Government Scholar. In 1941, shortly after the Pacific War had broken out, Yu served with British Naval Intelligence and was commissioned as an officer in the Intelligence Corps of the Army of the Republic of China. A prominent figure in Cantopop and Mandopop, he has written lyrics for nearly all major Hong Kong singers, with notable collaborations with Leslie Cheung, Faye Wong, Eason Chan, and Miriam Yeung. James Wong Jim (; 18 March 1941 – 24 November 2004, also known as "霑叔" or "Uncle Jim") was a Cantopop lyricist and songwriter based primarily in Hong Kong. Beginning from the 1960s, he was the lyricist for over 2,000 songs, collaborating with songwriter Joseph Koo ( Koo Kar-Fai) on many popular television theme songs, many of which have become classics of the genre. Jasper Tsang Yok-sing ( zh, t=曾鈺成; born 17 May 1947) is a Hong Kong politician. He is the founding member of the largest pro-Beijing party the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) from 1992 to 2003 and the 2nd President of the Legislative Council from 2008 to 2016.
