The governor of Ondo State is the head of government of Ondo State in Nigeria. The governor is the head of the executive branch of the Ondo State Government. The governor has a duty to enforce state laws and the power to either approve or veto bills passed by the Ondo State House of Assembly, to convene the legislature and grant pardons. When Ondo State was created from the Western State in 1976, Group Captain Ita David Ikpeme was appointed its first governor. Olusegun Mimiko served the longest term as governor, serving for two consecutive terms of 4 years from 2009 to 2017. Since the creation of the state in 1976, 19 people have served as governor, 12 military governors and 7 civilian governors. Lucky Aiyedatiwa
Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa (born 12 January 1965) is a Nigerian businessman and politician who has served as governor of Ondo State since 2023. He previously served as deputy governor of Ondo State from 2021 to 2023 under Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. He is a former commissioner of Niger Delta Development Commission. On 13 December 2023, Aiyedatiwa became acting governor following the departure of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on medical leave. He had previously served as acting governor from June to September 2023 when Akeredolu was on medical leave. The Ondo State House of Assembly is the legislative branch of the Ondo State, Ondo State Government inaugurated on 2 October 1979. The assembly is unicameral with 26 representatives elected from each constituencies of the 18 local government area of the state. Presently, the Assembly comprises 22 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC and 4 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria), PDP. Ita David Ikpeme is a retired Nigerian airforce group captain who served as the first Governor of Ondo State (February 1976 – July 1978) after it was carved out of the old Western State during the military regime of General Murtala Mohammed and Olusegun Obasanjo. Ita David Ikpeme obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of London. During his tenure as Governor of Ondo State, he initiated road construction in Akure, the Ondo State capital. Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Ogunboye Aremu Obasanjo (; ; born 5 March 1937) is a Nigerian former army general, politician and statesman who served as Nigeria's head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007. Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (; 21 July 1956 – 27 December 2023) was a Nigerian lawyer and politician who served as governor of Ondo State from 2017 until his death in 2023. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko ( ; born 3 October 1954), is a Nigerian medical doctor and politician who served as governor of Ondo State from 2009 to 2017.
