Muhammad Yousuf Wafa
Haji Mohammad Yousuf Wafa () is an Afghan Taliban leader who is currently serving as the provincial governor of Afghanistan's northern Balkh Province. Tribal affiliation Wafa is a Durrani Pashtun belonging to the Nurzai ( Noorzai) tribe of the Panjpai tribal confederation. The Nurzai and greater Durrani Pashtuns are historically rooted in southeastern Afghanistan, namely Kandahar where the throne of the Durrani Empire was established in 1747. Relationship with the supreme leader Wafa reportedly maintains a close relationship with the reclusive supreme leader of Afghanistan, Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada as fellow Nurzai tribesmen. Wafa reportedly acted as a gatekeeper to Akhundzada, meeting with individuals before allowing them to visit the supreme leader. Attā Muhammad Nur (also spelled Atā Mohammed Noor; ; born 1964) is an Afghanistan, Afghan exiled politician and former mujahideen leader who served as the List of governors of Balkh, Governor of Balkh Province in Afghanistan from 2004 to January 25, 2018. Mullah Muhammad Daud Muzamil (; 1974-died 9 March 2023) was a Taliban member in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) who served as Governor of Balkh province. Prior to that, he served as Governor of Nangarhar province. Death Muzamil was assassinated on 9 March 2023, during a special meeting with officials from Kabul in which the main issue of discussion was the Qosh Tepa Canal project in the area. According to Mohammad Asif Waziri, a police spokesman, a suicide bomber went inside the meeting and detonated his explosives. Two civilians were also killed during the attack and four others were injured. The Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) later claimed responsibility for the attack. The Afghan National Security Forces, which are under IEA control, soon began special operations against ISIS-K members in the area.
