A funicular ( ) is a type of cable railway system that connects points along a railway track laid on a steep grade (slope), slope. The system is characterized by two counterbalanced carriages (also called cars or trains) permanently attached to opposite ends of a haulage cable, which is looped over a pulley at the upper end of the track. The result of such a configuration is that the two carriages move synchronously: as one ascends, the other descends at an equal speed. Linthal Braunwaldbahn railway station is a railway station in the municipality of Glarus Süd in the Swiss canton of Glarus. It is situated on the Weesen to Linthal railway line in the valley of the Linth river, some short of the terminus of the line at Linthal station in the village of Linthal. The station opened in 1982 in order to provide a convenient interchange with the Braunwaldbahn funicular to the car-free resort of Braunwald on the mountain above. The Parsenn Funicular (, DPB) is a funicular railway in the resort of Davos in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The line links the town of Davos with the Weissfluhjoch ridge and the Parsenn ski area. The funicular is composed of two separate and independent sections, with an interchange station between the two at ''Höhenweg''. Cossonay
Cossonay is a municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is part of the district of Morges District, Morges. History Cossonay has both Ancient Rome, Roman ruins and medieval graves. The first documentation of the settlement dates from 1096 under the name ''Cochoniacum''. In 1164, this appears as ''Cosonai'', and in 1228 as ''Cossonai''. Ulrich von Cossonay gave the village church to the monastery in Romainmôtier in 1096. In 1224, it passed to the Benedictine monastery in Lutry, which built a priory in the second half of the 13th century. The town wall, built in the 11th century, was rebuilt and extended in the 13th and 14th centuries. The Barons of Cossonay ruled over a territory from La Chaux to Boussens and from Dizy to Gollion. Funiculaire Cossonay–Gare–Ville
The Funiculaire de Cossonay is a funicular railway connecting the town of Cossonay in the Swiss canton of Vaud with Cossonay-Penthalaz railway station, on the line from Lausanne to Vallorbe and Yverdon-les-Bains. The lower funicular station is called ''Cossonay-Gare'', but is in the village of Penthalaz. The upper station, some above, is named ''Cossonay-Ville'' .
