Janie Shores
Janie Ledlow Shores (April 30, 1932 – August 9, 2017) was a judge on the Supreme Court of Alabama who was the first woman to ever serve on that court. Shores also was considered by President Bill Clinton in 1993 as a possible nominee to the United States Supreme Court. Early life and education A native of Butler County, Alabama, who grew up in Baldwin County, Alabama, Shores attended Judson College and earned a bachelor's degree from Samford University. She then graduated with honors with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama Law School in 1959. Shores earned an LLM degree from the University of Virginia in 1992. Maria Elena Cruz
Maria Elena Cruz (born 1972) is an American lawyer who has served as a justice of the Arizona Supreme Court since January 29, 2025. Cruz served on the Arizona Court of Appeals from 2017 to 2025. Early life and education Cruz was born in New York, lived in Puerto Rico, and moved to Arizona with her parents when she was 14. Cruz is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where she received a bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1998, and a Juris Doctor from the James E. Rogers College of Law in 2001. Kathryn Jocelyn Mickle Werdegar (born April 5, 1936) is a former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of California, serving from June 3, 1994, to August 31, 2017. Rose Elizabeth Bird (November 2, 1936 – December 4, 1999) was the 25th Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. Barbara Womack Webb (born 1956 or 1957) is an American judge from Arkansas who is an associate justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court. She was born in Black Rock, Arkansas on February 23, 1940, to Millard and Myrtle Clark.
