Electroclash
Electroclash (also known as synthcore, retro-electro, tech-pop, nouveau disco, and the new new wave) is a genre of music that fuses 1980s electro, new wave and synth-pop with 1990s techno, retro-style electropop and electronic dance music. It emerged in the later 1990s and is often thought of as reaching its peak circa 2002/2003. It was pioneered by and associated with acts such as I-F, DJ Hell, Miss Kittin and The Hacker, and Fischerspooner. Terminology and characteristics The term electroclash describes a musical movement that combined synthpop, techno, punk and performance art. The genre was in reaction to the rigid formulations of techno music, putting an emphasis on song writing, showmanship and a sense of humour, and was described by ''The Guardian'' as one of "the two most significant upheavals in recent dance music history". Gang Gang Dance
Gang Gang Dance is an American band based in Manhattan, New York City. They are known for their distinctive sound which blends elements of psych-rock, ambient electronics, hip-hop, and Eastern music influences with the vocals of singer Lizzi Bougatsos. They have released several albums to critical praise, including '' Saint Dymphna'' (2008) and ''Eye Contact'' (2011). They are currently signed to the British label 4AD and previously recorded on labels such as Warp and The Social Registry. Futurecop! are Manzur Iqbal and Peter Carrol, British cinematic and electronic composers. Life and career Musical career Manzur and Peter met at university, where they were enrolled in the same course. Even though Manzur was an outcast and Peter was part of the popular crowd, their love of 1980s/90s memorabilia brought them together, and they became best friends very quickly. After graduating from university, Manzur spent all of his time re-creating the sound of his childhood. Frédérick Falke () (born 7 January 1973), known professionally as Fred Falke, is a French house and dance music producer and DJ. Biography Falke started out as a bass player before moving to production work. His first record, a collaboration with Alan Braxe named ''Intro'', which sampled The Jets' 1987 hit " Crush on You", was released in 2000 on Vulture Music. The pair would form a very productive partnership releasing a handful of singles and later making remixes for Goldfrapp, Röyksopp, Kelis, Justice, and others. The partnership would last until 2008 when they went their separate ways. Freezepop is an American electronic band from Boston, Massachusetts, United States, formed in 1999 by Liz Enthusiasm, Sean T. Drinkwater, and The Duke of Pannekoeken (an alias for Kasson Crooker). Since December 2009, the current lineup includes Enthusiasm, Drinkwater, Robert John "Bananas" Foster, and Christmas Disco-Marie Sagan. The band is named after the frozen snack, and they have described their music as "sweet and cold and fruity and plastic-y". Fischerspooner were an electroclash duo and performance troupe formed in 1998 in Chicago after meeting in school. The name is a combination of the founders' last names, Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner. Career Originally a duo formed by classically trained musician Warren Fischer and video-artist and experimental theater performer Casey Spooner for an impromptu rendition of their makeshift track "Indian Cab Driver" at the Astor Place Starbucks, the group grew to over 20 performers, most of whom are dancers and guest vocalists. Ellen Fraatz, known professionally as Ellen Allien, is a German electronic musician, music producer, and the founder of BPitch Control music label. Her album '' Stadtkind'' was dedicated to the city of Berlin, and she cites the culture of reunified Berlin as one of the main inspirations for her music. She sings in both German and English. Electrosexual is a French electronic musician, composer, performer, record producer and music video director living in Berlin. Career Electrosexual's passion for early electronic engines and primitive sounds from analog synthesizers inspired his mingling rough bass with an uptempo rhythm. He is the electro-sex (sometimes called sex-tronica) precursor and pioneer in France. He is an advocate of LGBT rights. Electrosexual created his stage name in reference to surrealistic non "(human) sexuality", considering machines and synthesizers as genitors, following in the footsteps of David Cronenberg, H.R. Electrocute (band)
Electrocute is an American-German rock group. It was founded by Nicole Morier, a singer from Albuquerque New Mexico, and former member Mia Dime in Berlin, Germany in 2002. The formation was motivated by the explosive electropop/electroclash music scene happening in Berlin at the time. After releasing one EP and one LP on the now defunct Emperor Norton records, Dime left the band and Morier continued touring, hiring Holly Doll, from Johnson City, Tennessee, to fill in. The two toured extensively throughout Europe, America, and Australia, where they played the Big Day Out festival in 2005 and met Sydney-based DJ Mindy, a.k.a. "Legs Le Brock," who was DJing an afterparty. Morier eventually moved to Los Angeles and temporarily disbanded the band to pursue her songwriting career.
