Flag Of Florida
The Flag of Florida is the state flag of Florida, United States. It consists of a red saltire on a white background, with the state seal superimposed on the center. The flag's current design has been in use since May 21, 1985, after the design of the Florida state seal was graphically altered and officially sanctioned for use by state officials. In 2001, a survey conducted by the North American Vexillological Association ranked Florida's state flag 34th in design quality of the 72 Canadian provincial, U.S. state and U.S. territorial flags ranked. It is one of three U.S. state flags to feature the words "In God We Trust" (the U.S. motto), with the other two being those of Georgia and Mississippi. History Spain was a dynastic union and federation of kingdoms when Juan Ponce de León claimed Florida for the Spanish Crown on April 2, 1513. Fort Lauderdale Yankees
The Fort Lauderdale Yankees, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, were an American Minor League Baseball franchise that existed from 1962 through 1992. The team was a member of the Florida State League (FSL) as an affiliate of the New York Yankees and won seven FSL championships during its 31 years of existence. The team was formed when the Yankees moved their spring training base from St. Petersburg, Florida, to Fort Lauderdale Stadium after the season. Its last championship team, in 1987, was managed by Buck Showalter and featured future Major Leaguers Jim Leyritz, Kevin Maas and Dave Eiland. When the Yankees left Fort Lauderdale for their new spring training home in Tampa, Florida, in 1993, the parent club maintained its other High-A affiliate, the Prince William Yankees of the Carolina League, and left the FSL for one season — returning in 1994 with the Tampa Yankees. The Boston Red Sox transferred their Winter Haven club to Fort Lauderdale Stadium for 1993 as ...

Jacksonville Beach Sea Birds
The Jacksonville Beach Sea Birds were a short-lived minor league baseball team, located in Jacksonville Beach, Florida from 1952 until 1954. It was a member of the then-Class D Florida State League. History The businessmen who owned the team hoped that professional baseball would add a source of entertainment for residents and tourists. Many residents loved the game and a few men could also fulfill their dream of becoming team owners. Minor league teams seemed ubiquitous in Florida, the rest of the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. The team was owned by the Greater Beaches Stadium, Inc. and their home ball park, known as Municipal Stadium, was on South Penman south of Shetter Avenue, a little over a mile from the ocean. Although the focus was Jacksonville Beach, people in other contiguous communities, such as Ponte Vedra Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Mayport, also rooted for the team. The owners hired Red Treadway, a former New York Giants player, as the Sea Bi ...
