Crust Punk
Crust punk (also known as stenchcore or simply crust) is a fusion genre of anarcho-punk and extreme metal that originated in the early to mid-1980s in England. Originally, the genre was primarily mid-tempo, making use of metal riffs in a stripped-down anarcho-punk context, however many later bands pushed the genre to be more grandiose, faster or more melodic. Often songs are political, discussing environmentalism, anarchism, anti-capitalism, feminism and animal rights. The genre originated in the early to mid-1980s with Amebix and Antisect, bands active in the anarcho-punk scene who began to incorporate the influence of heavy metal bands such as Hellhammer, Motörhead and Trouble. The influence of these bands led to the genre's first wave with Hellbastard, Deviated Instinct and Concrete Sox. Corrupt Leaders
Corrupt Leaders is a Canadian grindcore/crust band that formed in April 2013. They released two 7-inch EPs through Moshpit Tragedy Records (Phobia, Extreme Noise Terror, Doom, etc.) and one 7-inch on Give Praise Records. In early 2015, Corrupt Leaders released the four-song "Grindmother" EP, which features a guest vocal from frontman Rain Forest's 66-year-old mother. A video of the recording session went viral, and in April 2016, Grindmother released her own album "Age of Destruction", featuring music by Rain Forest and Tyson Apex. Driller Killer (band)
Driller Killer was a Swedish crust punk band. They were formed in 1993 in Malmö and are named after the Abel Ferrara film '' The Driller Killer''. They are signed to the French record label Osmose Productions and have released seven full-length albums, and a variety of split releases to date. Their style has been described as heavy punk, hardcore punk, crust punk and D-beat. They are also strongly influenced by the sound of Discharge. Driller Killer was one of the first bands to implement death metal sound into a crust punk formula. The popularity of the crust punk and death metal fusion cemented when Osmose Productions created the Kron-H imprint for the main purpose of signing Driller Killer, Disfear, Loud Pipes and Dellamorte. Doom are an English hardcore punk band from Birmingham whose first lineup were together from 1987 to 1990. Despite its short existence, the band is considered pivotal in the rise of crust punk, a genre of punk rock that takes influence and elements from extreme metal. They recorded for Peaceville Records and are cited as an early precursor to grindcore. Doom were also a favourite of BBC Radio DJ John Peel. Disrupt was an American crust punk band from Lynn, Massachusetts, that was active from 1987 to 1993. History The band's initial lineup was Jay Stiles and Pete Kamarinos (vocals), Chris Drake (guitar), Harry Haralabatos (drums), Tony Leone (bass). After recording one rehearsal demo, Leone and Haralabatos left the band. Brad Jones (drums) and Mike Williams (guitar) joined in the spring of 1988. However, Jones left the band a couple of months later, and Williams started playing drums. With this lineup, and with Stiles also playing bass, they recorded a demo, entitled ''Millions Die For Moneymaking'', in November 1988. In the spring of 1989, Williams and Drake left the band. Disfear
Disfear is a Swedish crust punk band that formed in the early 1990s and recorded sporadically over the years. After releasing the albums '' Soul Scars'' in 1995 and '' Everyday Slaughter'' in 1997, the group did not release another album until 2003 with a 12-track album, ''Misanthropic Generation'', featuring vocalist Tomas Lindberg of At the Gates and The Great Deceiver and Uffe Cederlund of Entombed. They later worked with Converge's Kurt Ballou for their album '' Live the Storm''. Bassist Henke Frykman died of cancer on 25 March 2011. Discharge are an English hardcore punk band formed in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The band is known for influencing several sub-genres of extreme music and their songs have been covered by some of the biggest names in heavy metal and other genres. The musical sub-genre of D-beat is named after Discharge and the band's distinctive drumbeat. The band is characterized by a minimalistic approach to music and lyrics, using a heavy, distorted and grinding guitar-driven sound and raw, shouted vocals similar to a political speech, with lyrics on anarchism, anarchist and pacifism, pacifist themes, over intense drone-like rhythms.
